Short Description

The School of Creative Media (SCM), the region’s first such institution, was founded to nurture a new generation of interdisciplinary artists and creative media professionals, and to develop new ideas and technologies for the creative industries in Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and abroad.

Our students are trained across disciplines spanning computer science, media arts, visual design, creative writing, cultural studies and digital technology. We bridge the boundaries between art and science and integrate traditional and new media. We value applied creativity, cultural awareness and critical thinking as much as business sense and entrepreneurial success.

Our internationally recruited faculty members are among the foremost artists and researchers in the field, bringing a global perspective and forging many institutional partnerships for the School. Our graduates consistently demonstrate high employability, with the majority now working as independent artists and professionals in the creative industries, film, television, advertising, publishing, media production and information technology. Many have won prestigious international and local awards for creative and technical innovation.

With strengths arising from a unique mix of East and West, Hong Kong has seen a major expansion in its creative economy and has emerged as a thriving hub of new media culture in Asia and the world. The CityU School of Creative Media has played an instrumental role in this development as the leading force in creative media education and research in Hong Kong. 

Admission Arrangements in 2018

JUPAS applicants will be considered for admission to first-year studies at the School of Creative Media. Students will have a free choice of majors [current major options: Creative Media (BA); Creative Media (BSc); New Media (BAS)] offered by the School after one year of study.

Notes for Elective Subject(s):

"Attained with Distinction I or II" in the following Applied Learning subjects may be accepted as one elective subject for JS1041:

Portfolio Submission:

HKDSE applicants who select JS1041 as their Band A or B choices are requested to submit a portfolio of creative works via an on-line system to the School of Creative Media. Applicants who select JS1041 as other band choices are also welcome to submit a portfolio. Details of the on-line portfolio submission will be announced towards the end of 2017 via the School’s portfolio web page at

Consideration may also be given to students' employment records, travel and other examples of life experience.

  • Mathematics extended modules (M1/M2) and "other languages" (at grade E or above) can be used to meet the elective requirement. If students take both M1 and M2, they are counted as one subject only.
  • Applied Learning subjects are not counted as elective subjects, except for JS1041, JS1042, JS1043, JS1044 and JS1203.

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination

CityU accepts repeat results and will count the best results in assessing whether applicants meet the entrance requirements and to calculate admission scores.
