The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Physical Education, Exercise Science and Health 健康與體育運動科學

PHY ED, EX SCI & HEALTH

Short Description

This programme aims to train physical education teachers, coaches, sports management professionals and health promotion personnel for positions in local academic institutions, government and private organisations. Fulfilment of the programme requirements leads to the award of a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree, which is recognised as equivalent to a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE), and entitles graduates to enter the teaching profession immediately after graduation. There is increasing recognition of the importance of health improvement through exercise and physical education. Taking advantage of the opportunity provided by the extra year at university conferred by Hong Kong educational reforms, this programme broadens students’ horizons both within and beyond their major disciplines. New courses are introduced in health, sports administration and marketing, and advanced professional skills. Students are also given opportunities to take part in internships and to gain research experience. To graduate, students must take 147 credits (including 104 units in their major programme) within five years. The programme trains students as generalists in sports and physical education, or as specialists in the areas of exercise physiology, sports biomechanics, sports psychology, sports management, physical education curriculum, sports pedagogy, health and fitness, or testing and measurement. Students may choose any of the aforementioned specialised topics as the focus of their graduation research project.
