ECONOMICS

Short Description

CUHK Economics Department offers a major programme which provides rigorous training on the application of economic theories and statistical tools on analysing key modern day issues. To further achieve a balance between theory and application, our programme emphasises the development of key skills, especially mathematics, statistics, and programming.  In addition to a comprehensive selection of courses covering all aspects of economics, students also have access to various databases and modern quantitative softwares (including Bloomberg Terminals) in our own specialised computer labs.  Our all-round training enables students to develop their own unique economic and financial insights, thereby preparing them for the increasingly dynamic modern world.

CUHK Economics equips students with the logical mindset, theoretical frameworks and quantitative skills to excel in numerous business, finance and academic professions. Graduates of CUHK Economics have been very well placed in many prestigious multinational financial and academic institutions.

To give you a taste of the questions that we attempt to answer, included hereunder is a sampler:

“How would you value stocks like Uber or Tesla, which hardly make any profit?”

“If McDonald's has to cut down 10% cost, how would you advise it to do so?”

“How would assets with negative BETAs help build your client's investment portfolio?”

“Think emails and online videos. Why are they free? When should a company charge its customers?”

“How would a hike in Ireland's tax rate affect iPhone’s supply chain?”

“How to construct an AI algorithm for a virtual bank using big-data?”
