Short Description

This programme aims to prepare students to become teachers of Chinese in both primary and secondary schools.  It comprises seven domains and Field Experience.  The seven domains include Chinese Major, Education Studies, General Education, Honours Project, Electives, Language Enhancement, and Co-curricular and Service Learning.  Chinese Major studies consist of four areas, namely, Linguistics, Literature, Culture, and Language Teaching.  Students will undertake disciplinary studies and conduct teaching practices in both primary and secondary schools levels.  Besides, students are required to attend an immersion programme in a university in Mainland China.

Note: This programme requires students to have possessed a good command of Chinese, hence, waiver of the DSE Chinese Language requirement will not be granted.

Remarks:

(i) "Attained with Distinction" in an Applied Learning subject (Category B) will be regarded as having met the requirement of an elective subject.  "Attained with Distinction"/"Attained with Distinction (I)" are comparable to level 3 while "Attained with Distinction (II)" is comparable to level 4 of the Senior Secondary Subjects (Category A).
(ii) "Attained" level will be regarded as a value-added factor to be considered in totality with the Student Learning Profile (SLP) for the purpose of admission.
(iii) Other Language subjects (Category C) will be accepted as unspecified elective subjects.  The minimum requirement is Grade E.
(iv) For non-Chinese speaking (NCS) students who have met the specified circumstances as announced by the Education Bureau (EDB), the University accepts alternative qualifications in Chinese Language (only those under GCE, GCSE, IGCSE, and DSE Applied Learning Chinese (for NCS students)) for the purpose of meeting the minimum entrance requirements.  For programmes which require students to have possessed a good command of Chinese including BEd(Chinese Language), BEd(Chinese History) and BA in Language Studies (both Chinese and English majors), waiver of the DSE Chinese Language requirement will not be granted.
(v) Applicants cannot use Extended Part in Mathematics (i.e. Module 1 / Module 2) as a substitute for the Mathematics Compulsory Part, nor can it be counted as an elective subject for the purpose of meeting the General Entrance Requirements.  But the Extended Modules will be used as supporting information for admission to our programmes.

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination

"Combined sittings" is allowed for HKDSE in the calculation of academic scores.  If an applicant has taken the examination in a subject more than once, only the best result for that subject will be counted.  No score deduction for repeated subjects.

First Year Tuition Fee

HK$ 42,100

Potential applicants are advised to note that the tuition fee which is provisional and subject to adjustment is for local students.  If you need to obtain a student visa or entry permit to study in Hong Kong, then you are regarded as a non-local student (subject to confirmation from the Hong Kong Immigration Department).
