BSc (Hons) Scheme in Biomedical Engineering 生物醫學工程(榮譽)理學士組合課程

BIOMEDICAL ENGG

Short Description

Biomedical engineering is recognised around the world as one of the fastest growing areas of innovation. It covers a wide spectrum of applications, such as devices used by health professionals in their diagnostic, therapeutic and rehabilitative practices; implants that are placed in patients for their health maintenance; prostheses, orthoses and assistive devices that are used by people with special needs to facilitate their daily activities; and healthcare products and exercise equipment for general health promotion.

This developing global field requires professionals who understand both the health issues that motivate these technologies and the engineering solutions that they offer. It needs individuals with a solid foundation in both health sciences and engineering technologies.

Our BSc(Hons) in Biomedical Engineering curriculum prepares students for such a challenging career. They have opportunities to take subjects in both life sciences and engineering, and to integrate these concepts into interdisciplinary applications to improve human health.

Remarks:

  • Students will be awarded the following award upon successful completion of the graduation requirements:
    • BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Engineering
  • The option of enrolment in one of the below-mentioned Secondary Majors is available to the students of BSc (Hons) in Biomedical Engineering. Admission to the Secondary Major is on competitive basis and subject to a different credit requirement for graduation.
    • Secondary Major in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics (AIDA)

  2. For HKDSE repeaters who took “Liberal Studies” in 2023/24 or before and have not taken "Citizenship and Social Development" in 2024/25 and thereafter, "Level 2" or above in "Liberal Studies" would be regarded as "Attained" in "Citizenship and Social Development" for fulfilling the general entrance requirement. However, "Liberal Studies" would not be recognized for meeting the elective requirement of the general entrance requirement in 2024/25 and thereafter. The level attainment of the subject would not be included in the admission score calculation.

Flexibilities on admission selection are available as follows:
  1. Individual schemes / programmes will accept one relevant Applied Learning (ApL) subject for meeting the entrance requirements. An attainment at Attained with Distinction (I) level or above / Attained with Distinction (obtained in 2017 or before) is required.
  2. Other Language subjects (i.e. Category C) offered in the HKDSE Examination will be accepted as elective subjects. Grade E or above is required.
  3. If students have taken both M1 and M2, they will only be considered as one subject and the best grade will be taken into consideration during admission selection.
  4. Students endorsed by schools for meeting EDB’s specified circumstances and having achieved the required grade in Chinese in one of the following examinations will be regarded as obtaining a Level 3 in HKDSE Chinese for meeting our entrance requirements:

  6. There is no compulsory subject requirement for our schemes / programmes. Preferred subjects, if applicable, are listed in the 'Entrance Requirements & Subject Weightings' section of individual scheme / programme entries. Satisfactory performance in preferred subjects will have a positive influence on admission selection. However, applicants who have not taken the preferred subjects will still be considered for admission but they may need to take relevant underpinning subjects after admission to PolyU.
  7. For admission to Scheme in Nursing, the BSc (Hons) in Nursing and BSc (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing, students must have Level 3 or above in at least two HKDSE elective subjects from Category A. Please click here for details of the HKDSE subject categories.
