Broad Discipline of Construction & Environment 建設及環境廣泛學科

Short Description

This programme will lead to one of the following awards:

  • BSc(Hons) in Building Engineering and Management; 
  • BSc(Hons) in Surveying; 
  • BSc(Hons) in Property Management; 
  • BEng(Hons) in Building Services Engineering; 
  • BEng(Hons) in Civil Engineering; 
  • BEng(Hons) in Environmental Engineering and Sustainable Development; or 
  • BSc(Hons) in Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics.

Students who are unable to decide on their Major at the time of application can be admitted to the Broad Discipline of Construction and Environment.  They are required to transfer to their Major-offering departments with effect from the Semester One of Year Two.  The deadline for submitting the Major selection form will be announced by the Faculty.

Remarks:

  • Students admitted to the Broad Discipline will complete a common Year 1 curriculum.
  • The respective programmes under the Broad Discipline of Construction and Environment also accept direct applications. Applicants can apply for admission to the individual programmes concerned.

There is no compulsory subject requirement. Preferred subjects with the highest weighting for admission score calculation include:
  • English;
  • Mathematics;
  • Extended modules of Mathematics;
  • Physics; and
  • Combined Science with Physics.

Flexibilities on admission selection are available as follows:

  1. Individual Broad Disciplines (BDs) / degree programmes will accept one relevant Applied Learning (ApL) subject for meeting the entrance requirements. An attainment at Attained with Distinction (I) level or above is required.
  2. Other Language subjects (i.e. Category C) offered in the HKDSE Examination will be accepted as elective subjects. Grade E or above is required.
  3. If students have taken both M1 and M2, they will only be considered as one subject and the best grade will be taken into consideration during admission selection.
  4. Students endorsed by schools for meeting EDB’s specified conditions and having achieved the required grade in Chinese in one of the following examinations will be regarded as obtaining a Level 3 in HKDSE Chinese for meeting our entrance requirements:

  5. No penalty is applied to applicants with multiple attempts in HKDSE Examination. Similar subjects are considered once and the best grade will be taken into consideration during admission selection.
  6. There is no compulsory subject requirement for our programmes. Preferred subjects, if applicable, are listed in the 'Entrance Requirements & Subject Weightings' section of individual programme entries. Satisfactory performance in preferred subjects will have a positive influence on admission selection. However, applicants who have not taken the preferred subjects will still be considered for admission but they may need to take relevant underpinning subjects after admission to PolyU.
  7. For admission to the BSc(Hons) in Nursing and BSc(Hons) in Mental Health Nursing, students must have Level 3 or above in at least two HKDSE elective subjects from Category A. Please refer to www.hkeaa.edu.hk/en/hkdse/assessment/subject_information/ for details of the HKDSE subject categories.

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination

No penalty is applied to applicants with multiple attempts in HKDSE Examination. Similar subjects are considered once and the best grade will be taken into consideration during admission selection.
