Early Admissions Scheme
for Secondary Six Students (EAS)

 

The Scheme

The Early Admissions Scheme for Secondary Six Students (EAS) (formerly known as the Advance Placement of Secondary Six Students) initiated by the University Grants Committee (UGC) aims at providing flexibility for Secondary Six students with outstanding performance to be admitted to the participating universities one year earlier.

Eligible applicants can submit applications for admission under EAS through a JUPAS sub-system to member-institutions which participate in the EAS.

The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), and The University of Hong Kong (HKU) will participate in the EAS this year (2009).

Eligibility

A local secondary six student will be eligible to apply under the JUPAS EAS if he/she has fulfilled the following General Requirement and Language Subjects Requirements:

To be eligible for the Scheme, applicants MUST be local Secondary Six students who have sat for the 2008 HKCEE, and must satisfy one of the following General Requirements AND the corresponding Language Subject Requirements:

or Level 4 or above in English Language AND Grade A in 6 other subjects

Level 4 or above in Chinese Language

where the requirement of Chinese can be replaced by Grade C or above in French or Putonghua, as appropriate.

Eligible applicants who have sat for the 2007 HKCEE and are current local S6 students might also apply via JUPAS EAS on an exceptional basis.

Eligible applicants who have sat for the 2008 HKCEE but are currently studying abroad should NOT apply via JUPAS EAS but should apply to the individual institutions directly.

Submission of Applications

All applications must be submitted via the JUPAS website at http://www.jupas.edu.hk (Early Admissions Scheme 2009) during the period January 19, 2009 (Mon)(9:00am) - January 22, 2009 (Thu)(11:59pm).

Application Fee

Applicants are required to pay an application fee of HK$420 via VISA / MasterCard (issued by any bank). The credit card used for payment must however be set up for online transaction.

Applicants can also choose to pay in cash at the JUPAS Office during the office hours.

2008 HKCEE Results

Applicants' 2008 HKCEE results will be sent by the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority (HKEAA) to the JUPAS Office and the participating institutions. In this regard, applicants are required at the time of their registration, to authorize via the web at the "Declaration" page, the JUPAS Office and the institutions to obtain, and the HKEAA to release, the results concerned in support of their application.

Selection of Programme Choices (Initial Application)

Applicants may select up to a maximum of 3 study programmes per institution (on institutional basis) from amongst those listed under Programmes Offered Under JUPAS.

Deadline for Application

The deadline for application is January 22, 2009 (Thu)(11:59pm).

Actual Priority (Initial Application)

Actual priority (on institutional basis) will only be made known to institutions in initial application.

Applicants can also login onto their account at the EAS online application system at http://www.jupas.edu.hk (Early Admissions Scheme 2009) using their 8-digit application number as their login name and the password they have previously selected - - > "Check Email" to check their own interview arrangements (where applicable) with the respective institutions nearer the time of interview.

Feedback on Interviews

Institutions will send / provide feedback on interviews to applicants directly from March 18, 2009 (Wed) ¡V March 25, 2009 (Wed).

To ensure that JUPAS remains a fair and objective system for applicants, the 3 participating institutions have also agreed that no further contacts with applicants will be made during the period March 26 - 30, 2009 when applicants will put their programme choices across institutions in priority order to make up a final list of a total of 5 programme choices.

Selection of Programme Choices (Final List for Iteration)

During the period March 26, 2009 (Thu)(9:00am) - March 30, 2009 (Mon)(11:59pm) applicants will be required, after the completion of interviews by all participating institutions, to put their programme choices across institutions in priority order via the web at http://www.jupas.edu.hk (Early Admissions Scheme 2009) to make up a final list of 5 programmes (across institutions) for consideration by the participating institutions.

Applicants are allowed to make changes more than once during the specified period (i.e. March 26, 2009 (Thu)(9:00am) - March 30, 2009 (Mon)(11:59pm)).

Applicants are also allowed to replace original choices by new choices within the same institution (provided that the no. of programme choices within one institution does not exceed 3). Applicants should however note that adding new programme(s) to their original programme choices may result in their failure to meet specific selection criteria such as attendance at interview.

Applicants will NOT be allowed to make further changes after the specified deadline (i.e. March 30, 2009 (Mon)(11:59pm)).

Actual priority of programmes on the final list of choices will NOT be made known to institutions. Instead, programme choices will be made known to the institutions in the form of 2 bands of programme choices:

Announcement of Offer Results

The offer results will be announced via the web at http://www.jupas.edu.hk (Early Admissions Scheme 2009) on April 9, 2009 (Thu)(from 9:00am).

Main Round Offer

Successful applicants will receive ONE offer which is the highest priority on their programme list.

Applicants with offer will confirm acceptance or otherwise of the offer on the web at http://www.jupas.edu.hk (Early Admissions Scheme 2009) during the period April 9, 2009 (Thu)(from 9:00am) - April 15, 2009 (Wed)(11:59pm). No further change will be allowed after the deadline of April 15, 2009 (Wed)(11:59pm).

Applicants accepting admission under EAS are required to complete their S6 studies satisfactorily. Institutions may withdraw their offer of admission if unsatisfactorily completion is reported.

Applicants with offer will not be considered for another / further offer under EAS in the same year.

Applicants without offer may apply again in S7 via the JUPAS main scheme.

Institutions will NOT make any offer after the Main Round.
