About JUPAS

Main Round Offer

1 Is the JUPAS Office responsible for the selection of applicants for admission to the 9 JUPAS participating-institutions and the SSSDP institutions?

NO.  The JUPAS Office is NOT responsible for the selection of applicants for admission to the 9 JUPAS participating-institutions and the SSSDP institutions.  The role of the JUPAS Office is solely to facilitate the administration of the applications process.

Determination of applicants' suitability for admission is entirely the decisions of the 9 JUPAS participating-institutions and the SSSDP institutions, and is independent of the JUPAS Office.  Enquiries on the institutions' decisions should be directed to the institutions concerned.

2 What are merit order lists?  Are they compiled by the JUPAS Office?

Merit order lists are rating lists compiled by the programmes' admissions tutors of each JUPAS participating-institution and the SSSDP institution who will determine the applicants' suitability for admission.  They are NOT compiled by the JUPAS Office.  Such decisions are therefore independent of the JUPAS Office.

Each programme of the 9 JUPAS participating-institutions and the SSSDP institutions will give eligible applicants who have selected the programme a rating in accordance with its criteria for selection.  Such rating will determine applicants' positions in the merit order list of each programme of their choices.

The JUPAS computer system will perform the "iteration process".  It will match the positions the applicants have been placed in each merit order list of the programmes on applicants' programme choice lists with the order of preferences applicants have assigned to these programmes.  The applicants will then be made offers of the highest priority on their programme choice lists for which they have the required rating.

Please refer to the section on Iteration Process for more details.

3 When applicants apply for admission using their HKDSE Examination results, how will the 9 JUPAS participating-institutions and the SSSDP institutions allocate the weighting of core subjects and elective subjects?

Allocation of the weighting of core subjects and elective subjects and the determination of applicants' suitability for admission are entirely the decisions of the 9 JUPAS participating-institutions and the SSSDP institutions, and are independent of the JUPAS Office.  Enquiries on the institutions' decisions should be directed to the institutions concerned.

Applicants should also visit the JUPAS website, the 9 JUPAS participating-institutions' and the SSSDP institutions' websites to consult the general entrance requirements and individual programme requirements of the respective institutions for further information.

4 Should applicants accept the Main Round offers while their results of rechecking and remarking of HKDSE Examination results are pending?

Applicants who have received Main Round offers and wish to accept the Main Round offers should accept the offers, regardless of whether the Main Round offers are UGC-funded programmes, HKMU self-financing programmes or SSSDP programmes, because the Main Round offers are the BEST AND ONLY offers to be made in the same academic year (2024 – 2025) and are of the highest possible priority on their programme choice lists in the case that applicants do not have RR results, or do not receive "better" offers after they have submitted requests for reconsideration of applications based on RR results.

Only applicants who have obtained upgraded HKDSE Examination results on subject levels / grades after rechecking and remarking (RR Results), regardless of whether they are given / have accepted their Main Round offers, are eligible to submit requests for reconsideration of their applications based on RR results WITH or WITHOUT modifications of programme choices.

Please refer to the section on Rechecking and Remarking of HKDSE Examination Results for more details.

5 Can applicants decline their Main Round offers in order to be reconsidered in the Clearing Round?

NO.  Applicants with Main Round offers have been given offers of the highest possible priority on their programme choice lists for which they have the required rating and thus the Main Round offers they received are the BEST AND ONLY offers possible.  They will therefore NOT be reconsidered for admission to any other programmes in the Clearing Round, regardless of whether the Main Round offers are UGC-funded programmes, HKMU self-financing programmes or SSSDP programmes.

Applicants who fail to pay the acceptance fees on or before the deadline (i.e. 8 August 2024 (5:00 pm)*) or fail to complete the registration / enrolment procedures at the institutions offering them admissions after payments of the acceptance fees will be regarded as having declined their Main Round offers, and they will NOT be reconsidered for admission to any other programmes under JUPAS in the same academic year (2024 – 2025).

The Main Round offers given to such applicants may then be offered to other applicants who are without any offers.

Please refer to the Summary of Announcement and Acceptance of Offers Arrangements for more details.

Except for applicants with upgraded HKDSE Examination results on subject levels / grades after rechecking and remarking (RR results) who submit requests for reconsideration of applications based on the RR results and are subsequently made "better" offers

6 If Applicant A places a programme as the first choice and Applicant B, with better HKDSE Examination results than Applicant A, places the same programme as the third choice, who will be admitted first?

The 9 JUPAS participating-institutions and the SSSDP institutions only have a general idea of how the applicants rank their programme choices.  They DO NOT have access to the actual priority of the programme choices of the applicants until after the announcement of the Main Round offer results.  The preferences of the applicants are made known to the 9 JUPAS participating-institutions and the SSSDP institutions in the form of 5 bands.  In the above example, the programme concerned does not know that Applicant A has placed its programme as his / her first choice, or that Applicant B has placed it as his / her third choice.  To the institutions, they are both Band A programmes.

Each programme of the 9 JUPAS participating-institutions and the SSSDP institutions will then give eligible applicants who have selected the programme a rating in accordance with its criteria for selection.  Such rating will determine applicants' positions in the merit order list of each programme of their choices.  Whether Applicant A or Applicant B will ultimately be admitted will depend on their respective positions in the programme's merit order list.

In determining applicants' positions in the respective merit order lists, institutions' programmes will consider NOT ONLY the HKDSE Examination results, but also other factors (e.g. performance in interviews and / or tests, banding of programme choices, HKDSE Examination results of other applicants in the same year, the number of applicants applying to the programmes, other information provided by applicants in the online application forms etc.).

Please refer to the section on Iteration Process for more details.

7 If applicants have financial difficulties in paying the acceptance fees before the specified deadline, what should they do?

Applicants who have financial difficulties in paying the acceptance fees before the specified deadline should contact the institutions offering them admissions for advice and assistance.

The related information for financial assistance of respective institutions will be announced in due course.

8 How can applicants check the Main Round offer results if applicants are not in Hong Kong on the day of the announcement of the Main Round offer results?

Applicants can still check the Main Round offer results even if they are not in Hong Kong on the day of the announcement of the Main Round offer results.  The Main Round offer results will be announced as from 7 August 2024 (9:00 am)* (HKT, i.e. UTC+8) through the following channels:

  1. JUPAS website;

  2. The websites of the 9 JUPAS participating-institutions; and

  3. JUPAS Office 24-hour Interactive Voice Response System (IVRS) at (852) 2334 2330.

Please refer to the section on Main Round Offer for more details.

9 How can applicants complete registration / enrolment procedures for the Main Round offers if they are not in Hong Kong within the designated period as specified by the institutions offering them admissions?

Applicants who are unable to register within the designated period should inform the institutions offering them admissions in advance so that alternative arrangements may be made, if possible.

Applicants who fail to complete the registration / enrolment procedures at the institutions offering them admissions after payments of the acceptance fees will be regarded as having declined their Main Round offers, and they will NOT be reconsidered for admission to any other programmes under JUPAS in the same academic year (2024 – 2025).

Please refer to the section on Main Round Offer for more details.

10 If applicants are given Main Round offers and they have accepted programmes not under JUPAS, can the fees paid for such programmes be refunded?  How?

Applicants should contact the institutions offering them the programmes not under JUPAS for further information.

11 When will the acceptance status be updated after paying the acceptance fees for the Main Round offers?

Applicants should refer to the notification schedule for the details.

If applicants do not receive these acknowledgement messages according to the above payment notification schedule after completion of the relevant procedures, they should contact the JUPAS Office immediately.

12 If applicants receive the notifications of successful payment of acceptance fees after the deadline, would that affect their acceptance status?

NO.  Applicants are assured that their acceptance status will NOT be affected if they successfully paid the acceptance fees for the Main Round offers before the deadline (i.e. 8 August 2024 (5:00 pm)*) via the designated channels with correct information provided, regardless the notifications are received after the deadline.

Applicants will be notified of the successful payments of the acceptance fees via the means and schedule listed here.

If applicants do not receive these acknowledgement messages according to the payment notification schedule after completion of the relevant procedures, they should contact at the JUPAS Office immediately.
