BA English 文學士(英語語言)

BAEN

Short Description

The Department of English at City University of Hong Kong is an international leader in research on and teaching of English Studies in Asia. The Department is established as one of the most creative and dynamic English departments in the Asia-Pacific region. Equally important, the Department is committed to providing an innovative undergraduate programme that prepares students for their professional careers in management and administration; editing and publishing; teaching; public relations and advertising; and entertainment and the arts.

The Department currently offers the following major:

  • BA English

The programme equips students with theoretical and practical knowledge in English language, literature, and professional communication. Our courses develop students’ ability to analyse critically the English language and its use in a variety of genres, modes, and media. Upon completion of the programme, students will have acquired the skills and attitudes essential for successful communication in linguistically and culturally diverse contexts.

To achieve academic excellence and to promote whole person development, the major adopts a global perspective that emphasises the importance of intercultural knowledge and understanding. All students are encouraged to participate in overseas learning experiences (e.g. English summer programme, exchange) to improve their awareness of intercultural communication and enhance their English communication skills. In addition, the internship provides students with valuable experience as they acquire skills within professional, academic, and creative contexts.

All students will choose to do either a Research Final Year Project or a Professional English Final Year Project as the capstone experience of their university education.

Remarks:

BA English is a qualification recognised for exemption from the Language Proficiency Requirement (LPR) (English Language). For details, please visit EDB website.

BA English (Language and Literature stream) is listed as one of the Recognised English Major Degree Programmes for the Scholarship for Prospective English Teachers run by the Education Bureau (EDB). Please refer to the EDB website for details.
