Short Description

This programme aims to develop a high level of English proficiency and in-depth knowledge and understanding of key aspects of the English language.

The degree is recognized by the Education Bureau as a language major degree, and graduates who also complete a teacher's qualification specializing in English language will become fully qualified English language teachers in Hong Kong and will be exempted from the English Language Proficiency Assessment for Teachers.  Graduates will be eligible to take up general administrative and executive work in the civil service, non-government organizations, the business or industry sectors and other positions for university graduates.

One of the following elective subjects:
  1. HKDSE Category B subjects (Applied Learning) with attainment at “Attained” or above; or Category C subjects (Other Languages) with attainment at grade E or above will be considered as elective subjects.

  2. Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) applicants, who have met the specified circumstances as announced by the Education Bureau (EDB), can use the following qualifications to replace HKDSE Chinese Language level 3 to meet the entrance requirement for Chinese Language:
    • HKDSE Applied Learning Chinese: Attained  
    • GCE (A-Level /AS-Level) Chinese: Grade E or above  
    • GCE (O-Level)/ GCSE/ IGCSE Chinese: Grade E or above

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination

The University will calculate the best grades attained by an applicant from the most current two sittings of HKDSE taken by the applicant.  There is no grade penalty for multiple sittings.
