Short Description

This programme combines sound scientific principles with engineering applications to help students develop into competent and effective engineering professionals in the areas of integrated circuit design, electronics, telecommunications, computers, embedded systems, and multimedia technologies and programming. By developing their professional competence and problem-solving and critical thinking skills, we help ensure that our graduates are capable of meeting the challenges of the rapidly changing engineering profession and applying what they have learnt in making contribution to industry and society.

Remarks:

  • To give encouragement and recognition to HKDSE students with outstanding academic performance, and to support their studies at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering (EIE) at PolyU has launched the “EIE Academic Entrance Scholarship for Outstanding HKDSE Admittees” since the 2016-17 academic year. Details of the scholarship are given in the information sheet, which can be viewed here. Details of application for 2019-20 admission will be announced later.
  • Students can take a number of extra Electives to earn a Minor award in areas such as accountancy, business, finance or management, among others.
  • Students may be required to take an extra subject in Physics depending on their entry qualifications.

There is no compulsory subject requirement. Preferred subjects with the highest weighting for admission score calculation include:

  • English;
  • Mathematics;
  • Extended modules of Mathematics;
  • Information and Communication Technology; and
  • All single and combined Science subjects.

  • Applied Learning Subjects:
    • Computer Forensic Technology;
    • Computer Game and Animation Design;
    • Electrical and Energy Engineering;
    • Electronic Product Design in Action;
    • Internet of Everything Application;
    • Mobile and Online Apps Development; and
    • Multimedia Entertainment Studies.

Relevant Applied Learning subjects that can be considered for meeting the University entrance requirement and admission score calculation are:

  • Computer Forensic Technology;
  • Computer Game and Animation Design;
  • Electrical and Energy Engineering;
  • Electronic Product Design in Action;
  • Internet of Everything Application;
  • Mobile and Online Apps Development; and
  • Multimedia Entertainment Studies.

Flexibilities on admission selection are available as follows:

  1. Individual Broad Disciplines (BDs) / degree programmes will accept one relevant Applied Learning (ApL) subject for meeting the entrance requirements. An attainment at Attained with Distinction (I) level or above / Attained with Distinction (obtained in 2017 or before) is required.
  2. Other Language subjects (i.e. Category C) offered in the HKDSE Examination will be accepted as elective subjects. Grade E or above is required.
  3. If students have taken both M1 and M2, they will only be considered as one subject and the best grade will be taken into consideration during admission selection.
  4. Students endorsed by schools for meeting EDB’s specified circumstances and having achieved the required grade in Chinese in one of the following examinations will be regarded as obtaining a Level 3 in HKDSE Chinese for meeting our entrance requirements:

  5. No penalty is applied to applicants with multiple attempts in HKDSE Examination. Similar subjects are considered once and the best grade will be taken into consideration during admission selection.
  6. There is no compulsory subject requirement for our programmes. Preferred subjects, if applicable, are listed in the 'Entrance Requirements & Subject Weightings' section of individual programme entries. Satisfactory performance in preferred subjects will have a positive influence on admission selection. However, applicants who have not taken the preferred subjects will still be considered for admission but they may need to take relevant underpinning subjects after admission to PolyU.
  7. For admission to the BSc(Hons) in Nursing and BSc(Hons) in Mental Health Nursing, students must have Level 3 or above in at least two HKDSE elective subjects from Category A. Please refer to www.hkeaa.edu.hk/en/hkdse/assessment/subject_information/ for details of the HKDSE subject categories.
  8. The study places offered by PolyU through JUPAS are intended primarily for admission of local school leavers. Applicants who are studying a programme or have attained qualifications at the same or above level as the programmes for which they are applying will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  9. Please note that local and non-local applicants are considered under different admission routes with different intake quotas. Non-local JUPAS applicants seeking admission on the basis of HKDSE results will be considered in competition with other non-local applicants holding various international qualifications. Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination

No penalty is applied to applicants with multiple attempts in HKDSE Examination. Similar subjects are considered once and the best grade will be taken into consideration during admission selection.
