Short Description

The aim of the programme is to produce graduates who are qualified to be employed as Testing and Certification engineers in the industry. Graduates will also be qualified for further study in testing and certification, engineering, applied sciences or related areas.

The programme helps students to gain comprehensive and professional knowledge in the field of Testing and Certification through a structured engineering approach. Courses in year 3 and 4 are grouped into three specialized areas, including Electrical and Electronic, Physical and Mechanical, and Chemical and Microbiological. Students will also experience a real working environment in the testing and certification industry through compulsory practicum courses (guided industrial training and industrial placement) in year 2 and year 3 summer terms.

This programme was put on the full list of accredited programmes published on the HKIE website. To be a Member of the HKIE via the formal training or general experience routes, the candidates must have obtained an accredited honours degree or an acceptable equivalent in a recognised engineering or technological discipline.

1. HKDSE Category B subjects (Applied Learning) with attainment at “Attained” or above; or Category C subjects (Other Languages) with attainment at grade E or above will be considered as elective subjects.

2. Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) applicants, who have met the specified circumstances as announced by the Education Bureau (EDB), can use the following qualifications to replace HKDSE Chinese Language level 3 to meet the entrance requirement for Chinese Language:

  • HKDSE Applied Learning Chinese: Attained
  • GCE (A-Level /AS-Level) Chinese: Grade E or above
  • GCE (O-Level)/ GCSE/ IGCSE Chinese: Grade E or above

The elective subject should preferably be a science subject: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Combined Science or Integrated Science.

The above first year tuition fee has included the laboratory/immersion course fee.

Estimated Programme Fees after deduction of SSSDP subsidy in the amount of HK$72,800 per year:

Remarks:

  1. The estimated composite tuition/programme fees listed above are for reference only. The rate is subject to approval. Tuition fees are charged according to the number of course credits taken by a student. A student will normally take 40 credits in an academic year.
  2. The composite tuition/programme fees listed above have included laboratory/ practicum/ immersion course fee, etc., if applicable.
  3. The estimated composite tuition/programme fee for the whole programme has taken the Composite Consumer Price Index (CCPI) projected by OUHK for the second to fourth year, i.e. 2020/21 to 2022/23, into account but the annual adjustment of tuition fee will be capped at the actual CCPI to be announced by the Government or the CCPI projected by the University, whichever is lower.
  4. The subsidy is tenable for the normal duration of the study programme concerned and is subject to the students' satisfactory fulfilment for progression in the study programme. For details of the scheme and eligibility, please visit http://www.cspe.edu.hk/sssdp.
  5. The annual subsidy amount allocated in an academic year is subject to EDB’s final approval.  The annual subsidy amount of SSSDP for this programme for the 2019/20 academic year is HK$72,800.
  6. Only local students are eligible for subsidy under SSSDP.
