Short Description

Digitization and data are fundamentally changing all businesses and industries. The BSc(MAT) equips students with quantitative skills, technology, and business marketing know-how to pursue a career in the digital economy and modern businesses.  The program targets both STEM students with an interest in business as well as business students interested in the technology space.

Students will gain a solid foundation in cutting-edge technical areas including computer programming, data science, digital platforms and marketing technology as well as business marketing know-how such as the design & launch of new technology products, targeting consumers, digital marketing, forecast and predicting markets, and building a technology-focused strategy.

BSc(MAT) graduates will be well-prepared to join the workforce in digital marketing, entrepreneurship & start-ups, gaming, digital platforms, e-commerce, IT, consulting, finance, and other industries with a focus on analytics, data, and technology.

Remark:

  1. Level 2 in Liberal Studies achieved in previous sitting(s) will be considered in lieu of Citizenship and Social Development.
  2. Other Language subjects will be used as unspecified elective subjects. The minimum requirement is Grade E.

Level 3 or above in Mathematics (Extended Module 1 or Module 2) is preferred (but not required)

The result(s) of Liberal Studies, Combined Science and Integrated Science achieved in previous sitting(s) will also be considered.

  1. "Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education” is referred to as “HKDSE”.
  2. "Attained with Distinction" obtained prior to 2018, or "Attained with Distinction (I)" or "Attained with Distinction (II)" obtained in or after 2018, in Applied Learning subjects (other than Applied Learning Chinese) will be used as additional supporting information. In the meantime, student learning experiences in Applied Learning subjects may be considered within the context of other learning experiences in their application.
  3. Level 2 in Liberal Studies achieved in previous sitting will be considered in lieu of Citizenship and Social Development.
  4. Other Language subjects will be used as unspecified elective subjects. The minimum requirement is Grade E.
The result(s) of Combined Science and Integrated Science achieved in previous sitting(s) will also be considered.

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination

In general, most of the programmes offered by HKU consider the best results achieved by candidates in different combination of sittings, except for a few programmes which only consider the latest results.  Few programmes may also impose a penalty on HKDSE repeaters.  Please refer to https://www.hku.hk/dse for details.
