BBA in Professional Accounting 工商管理學士(專業會計學)
ACCT
Short DescriptionUpdated
The HKUST BBA in Professional Accounting (ACCT) is designed to develop future-ready accounting professionals who can lead in a business environment transformed by data, digitalization, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). The program positions accounting beyond traditional accountancy. We recognize it as a strategic discipline that integrates analytical thinking, professional judgment, and digital capability—skills essential for modern finance functions and global business leadership.
The curriculum provides rigorous training in financial reporting, managerial decision-making, business assurance, and taxation. Students gain a strong foundation through core courses while benefiting from a wide range of electives that allow them to explore specialized interests. The program is further strengthened by three main flexible study pathways.
The HKICPA Qualification Program (QP) route:
- The HKICPA QP route is designed for students who plan to pursue the Hong Kong CPA designation and require comprehensive preparation aligned with both international and local professional standards.
The Accounting Analytics (AA) academic option:
- The AA academic option equips students with data-driven analytical skills, enabling them to apply statistical tools and visualization techniques to support financial reporting, managerial decision-making, auditing, fraud detection, and business analysis.
The Emerging Technologies in Accounting (ETA) academic option:
- It prepares students to navigate and lead digital transformation by understanding technologies such as cryptocurrencies, blockchain, and their multidimensional business applications, modern AI applications, Large Language Model (LLM), and agentic systems in accounting practice and analysis.
Depending on students’ academic commitment and aspirations, we permit students to pursue an additional major in another business discipline. They may also pursue a minor program offered by other Schools within the University.
Moreover, the program provides students with ample opportunities to enrich their lives during their undergraduate years, e.g., internships and cadet programs offered by professional firms; student exchange programs; and various case competitions organized by various professional organizations. Scholarships and subject prizes are available for qualified applicants.
The program is fully accredited by the HKICPA and recognized by major international professional bodies, including ACCA and CPA Australia. These accreditations reflect the program’s strong alignment with global professional standards and its reputation for producing highly capable graduates.
Graduate employability is consistently outstanding. Employer surveys and graduate statistics show near-full employment, with students securing positions at professional services firms, business corporations, financial institutions, and consulting practices. Our graduates also pursue advanced studies or international professional qualifications, further demonstrating the program’s strong academic and professional foundation.
Extended Major
ACCT students may apply for the extended major in Artificial Intelligence, Digital Media and Creative Arts or Sustainability at the end of the 3rd term of study, if they satisfy the extended major requirement. Students completing the extended major will graduate with a title bearing both the traditional major subject they selected and the extended major. For details, please refer to "JS5300 Business & Management".
Remarks:
The Year 1 curricula of JS5318 ACCT and JS5300 B&M are identical. JS5318 allows students who have a special interest in BBA ACCT to directly enter the major. Those admitted into JS5300 may apply to enter ACCT or other business majors via the major selection exercises held at the end of the first three terms. Students interested in ACCT should include either or both JS5318 and JS5300 in their program choices. Please click here for details of JS5300 Business and Management.
Band A applicants who show talents and potentials for business study will be invited to engagement activities organized by HKUST Business School in May–June 2026.
