Updates on PolyU Programme (JS3223)
The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has recently approved the restructuring of the UGC-funded BSc (Hons) Scheme in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (JS3223), effective from the 2026 Admissions Exercise. Under the restructured scheme, the existing BSc (Hons) in Financial Technology and Artificial Intelligence will be retitled to BSc (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence with Financial Technology. In addition, a new specialism BSc (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence under the scheme will be introduced, subject to the programme's satisfying validation requirements.
The restructuring reflects the fast growth of artificial intelligence (AI) and its importance across many industries. By retitling the programme to BSc (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence with Financial Technology, the focus on core AI knowledge is made clearer, while still showing how AI is applied in finance. A new BSc (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence option is also introduced for students who want to concentrate on fundamental AI skills and innovation.
The restructured BSc (Hons) Scheme in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence consists the following programmes:
-
[New] BSc (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence
-
[Retitled] BSc (Hons) in Artificial Intelligence with Financial Technology
-
[Remain] BSc (Hons) in Data Science and Analytics
These changes give students more choice and a clearer study direction. Students who are interested in finance can explore how AI is used in FinTech, while those who prefer a wider technology focus can pursue the pure AI pathway. The updated design makes the programme more relevant and modern, and better aligned with future career opportunities such as AI engineer, data scientist, and FinTech specialist. This helps students to be part of the next wave of technological innovation.
