Points to Note on Revised Eligibility Requirements

2027 eligibility

1. Before Applying 2027 JUPAS Admissions Exercise

Details of 2027 JUPAS Admissions Exercise application procedures and information will be announced in September 2026.

Before applying for 2027 JUPAS Admissions Exercise, prospective applicants must read carefully and fully understand all eligibility requirements and their specified categories of identity document(s).

Applicants under CATI-5 are not required to provide supporting documents for the residency requirements at the time of submitting JUPAS application or creating JUPAS accounts.

2. CATI-5 (i.e. current LS5) Applicants with Fulfilment of Applicable Residency Requirement

CATI-5 (i.e. current definition of LS5) applicants refer to applicants who hold Hong Kong Identity Card and Dependant visa / entry permit (for students who were below 18 years old) and meet one of the residency requirements:

  • Residency requirement (a): The applicant is a full-time student studying at a school offering a formal curriculum in Hong Kong recognised by the Education Bureau (EDB).  The school is required to submit proof of studies on behalf of their school applicants.

Lists of Schools offering a formal curriculum in Hong Kong provided by the EDB:

(i) Government secondary schools and Government-aided secondary schools

(ii) Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) schools

(iii) International schools / private independent schools / DSS schools offering non-local curriculum

According to the EDB, such applicants are not subject to the counting of absent days from Hong Kong during the one-year (in 2027 JUPAS Admissions Exercise) and / or two-year period, irrespective of the purpose of such absence (including but not limited to exchange, immersion, internship and field experiences).

  • Residency requirement (b): The applicant is required to obtain a Statement of Travel Records from the Immigration Department of the HKSAR (Immigration Department) at a prescribed fee.  Please refer to the Immigration Department website for information on the application for the Statement of Travel Records.

    • For 2027 JUPAS Admissions Exercise CATI-5 applicants, Statement of Travel Records required period for the one-year residency requirement is from 1 June 2026 – 31 May 2027, which demonstrate a maximum of 90 days of absence from Hong Kong during this period.

    • For 2028 JUPAS Admissions Exercise CATI-5 applicants, Statement of Travel Records required period for the two-year residency requirement is from 1 June 2026 – 31 May 2028, which demonstrate:

      (i) A maximum of 90 days of absence from Hong Kong from 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2027; and

(ii) A maximum of 90 days of absence from Hong Kong from 1 June 2027 to 31 May 2028.

3. Calculation and Submission of Residency Requirement

According to the EDB, the number of days of absence from Hong Kong is calculated as follows:

  • Same-day travel that involves departing from Hong Kong and returning on the same day is counted as one day of absence.

For example, if an applicant leaves Hong Kong on 1 February and returns on the same day (regardless of the exact time of return), the number of days of absence is one.

  • For travelling outside of Hong Kong that lasts more than one day, the number of days of absence is calculated from the day of departure from Hong Kong, and the day of return to Hong Kong is not counted.

    Example 1: If an applicant leaves Hong Kong on 1 February and returns on 10 February, the number of days of absence is nine days;

Example 2: If an applicant leaves Hong Kong at 11:30 pm on 10 February and returns at 00:30 am on 11 February, the number of days of absence is one (even if the duration is less than 24 hours).

Details of the arrangements and procedures for submitting residency requirement supporting documents will be announced through official publication channels of JUPAS on or before 1 June 2027.
