The Department of Management Sciences is a multi-disciplinary department consisting of two major areas of expertise: Business Analytics and Operations Management. Our faculty is made up of world-class scholars who earned their PhDs from the world's leading universities. Many of them maintain close relationships with the industry and government agencies through consultancy projects.

  • We have 59 on-going funded projects with total funds exceeding 25 million dollars, of which 29 were supported by the government.
  • The Department is ranked among the best in the Asia-Pacific region and 23rd in the world among Top Management Science Departments, based on publications in the most prestigious business academic journals (2012-2016) by University of Texas, Dallas, USA.
  • In addition to being outstanding researchers, we are caring and dedicated lecturers who believe that our students are the Department's most valuable assets, and our graduates are our most significant contribution to society. The Department currently offers the following two majors:

  • BBA Business Analysis
  • BBA Business Operations Management

Why BBA Business Analysis?

BBA Business Analysis (BANL) programme is designed specifically to meet the business demand for deep data analytical skills and provide a comprehensive training in business analytics, statistics, business intelligence, risk management, marketing analysis, business knowledge and communication skills.

Why BBA Business Operations Management?

BBA Business Operations Management (BOM) programme aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to tackle the operations challenges of contemporary managers. Students learn to identify operations improvement opportunities for companies, propose and implement improvement solutions, and present their findings and results to senior executives.

Career Prospects

BBA BANL graduates are ready for a statistical, analytical and managerial position in the financial, commercial, and government sector.

BBA BOM graduates are ready to start career as management trainee, operations manager, operations analyst, project manager, etc. They typically begin their careers in areas such as consulting, financial operations, health care operations, procurement and sourcing, retail management and supply chain management.

Admission Arrangements

JUPAS applicants will be considered for admission to first-year studies at the Department of Management Sciences. Students will enter a major (current major options: Business Analysis; Business Operations Management) after one year of study. The top 40% of students# will have a free choice of majors offered by the Department. The other 60% of students will be allocated a major within the Department, subject to the availability of places and the selection criteria set by individual majors. Please click here for details.

Notes for Elective Subject(s):

  • Besides Category A elective subjects, Mathematics extended modules (M1/M2) and "other languages" (at grade E or above) can also be used to meet the elective requirement. If students take both M1 and M2, they are counted as one subject only.
  • Applied Learning subjects are not counted as elective subjects.
