The Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering (ACE), one of the founding departments at City University of Hong Kong, offers professional education at both undergraduate and postgraduate degree levels. Our programmes are academically rigorous and professionally focused. Adopting an inter-disciplinary approach, our programmes are delivered by a professional team that includes civil and structural engineers, architectural / building services engineers, construction engineers, material technologists, environmental scientists, architects, urban planners, building surveyors and quantity surveyors. Our graduates are therefore uniquely placed to serve the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry.
The AEC industry in Hong Kong is flourishing. Infrastructure and building developments, and the maintenance and refurbishment of existing facilities, have contributed to Hong Kong's growing economy. There are notable opportunities for innovations and career development. In addition to the Hong Kong market, the local AEC industry can expect to participate actively in the markets of the People’s Republic of China. The Department has established close collaborations with universities and professional bodies both locally and internationally.
This programme aims to provide students a multi-disciplinary knowledge and skills in the area of architectural engineering, civil engineering, architecture and surveying. The programme features a flexible structure with the following majors:
- Bachelor of Engineering in Architectural Engineering
- Bachelor of Engineering in Civil Engineering1
- Bachelor of Science in Architecture and Surveying2
Admission Arrangements
Students admitted into the programme will study a common curriculum for the first year and pursue a major (Architectural Engineering, Civil Engineering or Architecture and Surveying) in the second year. The top 40% of students# will have a free choice of majors while the remaining 60% will be allocated a major within the Department, subject to the availability of places and the selection criteria set by individual majors.
1 Students whose major is Civil Engineering can opt for the Structural Engineering stream or Infrastructure and Smart City stream in the second year according to the selection criteria set by the programme team. Students whose major in Civil Engineering with stream in Structural Engineering are eligible to apply for the Joint Bachelor's Degree Program between City University of Hong Kong and National Taiwan University.
2 Students whose major is Architecture and Surveying can opt for the Architecture stream or Surveying stream in the second year according to the selection criteria set by the programme team.
