Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Early Childhood Education) 幼兒教育榮譽學士


Short Description

This programme aims to prepare well-qualified graduates to enter the early childhood profession at the degree level. They will demonstrate the knowledge and dispositions required to design, implement and assess quality programmes for children from 0 to 8 years of age in care and education settings. They will be committed to life-long learning and able to inquire into practice and improve it, think creatively, reflect, make ethical decisions, and contribute to the quality of early childhood education in Hong Kong. Upon graduation, they will: (i) be eligible to register as Qualified Kindergarten Teacher and Child Care Worker; (ii) meet the professional qualifications required as kindergarten principal and child care supervisor; and (iii) be recognized (who have successfully completed the specified courses in the Minor "Specialized Themes in Early Years Education") as having acquired training on the 1-year In-service Course in Special Child Care Work of the Social Welfare Department.

(i) "Attained with Distinction" in an Applied Learning subject (Category B) will be regarded as having met the requirement of an elective subject.  "Attained with Distinction"/"Attained with Distinction (I)" are comparable to level 3 while "Attained with Distinction (II)" is comparable to level 4 of the Senior Secondary Subjects (Category A).
(ii) "Attained" level will be regarded as a value-added factor to be considered in totality with the Student Learning Profile (SLP) for the purpose of admission.
(iii) Other Language subjects (Category C) will be accepted as unspecified elective subjects.  The minimum requirement is Grade E.
(iv) For non-Chinese speaking (NCS) students who have met the specified circumstances as announced by the Education Bureau (EDB), the University accepts alternative qualifications in Chinese Language (only those under GCE, GCSE, IGCSE, and DSE Applied Learning Chinese (for NCS students)) for the purpose of meeting the minimum entrance requirements.  For programmes which require students to have possessed a good command of Chinese including BEd(Chinese Language), BEd(Chinese History) and BA in Language Studies (Chinese major), waiver of the DSE Chinese Language requirement will not be granted.
(v) Applicants cannot use Extended Part in Mathematics (i.e. Module 1 / Module 2) as a substitute for the Mathematics Compulsory Part, nor can it be counted as an elective subject for the purpose of meeting the General Entrance Requirements.  But the Extended Modules will be used as supporting information for admission to our programmes.

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination

"Combined sittings" is allowed for HKDSE in the calculation of academic scores.  If an applicant has taken the examination in a subject more than once, only the best result for that subject will be counted.  No score deduction for repeated subjects.
