Bachelor of Dental Surgery 牙醫學士

BDS

Short Description

The intent of the Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) curriculum at the Faculty of Dentistry, The University of Hong Kong, is to educate and train students to become dentists in its mission of providing oral healthcare for individuals and the community in the Hong Kong context.  The integrated BDS curriculum is outcomes- and competency-based and adopts a problem-based learning (PBL) approach in achieving this mission.  The dental degree curriculum lasts six years.

Learning principally takes place in the Prince Philip Dental Hospital, the only dental teaching hospital in Hong Kong.  However, learning also takes place in the general medical wards and surgical wards and operating theatres of the University Departments of Medicine and Surgery, and with Oral and Maxillofacial patients in the Queen Mary Hospital.  Learning occurs at a variety of other dental clinics and oral health education delivery settings throughout Hong Kong.

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination

In general, most of the programmes offered by HKU consider the best results achieved by candidates in different combination of sittings, except for a few programmes which only consider the latest results.  Few programmes may also impose a penalty on HKDSE repeaters.  The policy on the calculation of scores in combined sittings of HKDSE for the 2019-20 exercise will be finalized at a later stage, which will be posted on our website https://www.hku.hk/dse.
