BASc

Short Description

What does it mean to become an educated person in today’s ever changing and unpredictable world? Rooted in the belief that each student’s talents and aspirations are unique, the personalised BASc(IS) programme is designed for students who wish to explore and develop their own passions and intellectual interests at university.

The personalised BASc (IS) is designed for intellectually ambitious students who benefit from maximal flexibility, and who wish to take control of their own learning.  We seek to cultivate within students a rare unity between unbounded imagination and creativity (from the humanistic disciplines), with rigour and systematic analysis (from the scientific disciplines). As such, our students develop a broad set of scholarly skills which allow them to become adaptive, compassionate, well-rounded leaders across a diverse range of fields.

Four aspects shape the BASc(IS) student experience:

  1. Holistic Development: Academic, social and emotional development of the whole person (e.g. through mentorship, internships, informal learning and co-curricular activities).
  2. Personalised Learning: Experiences that reflect students’ unique interests, passions and formative ambitions (e.g. through the Personalised Concentration option)*.
  3. Interdisciplinary Education: Formal coursework across disciplinary fields, with specific interdisciplinary courses. Students undertake high-quality training from the Social Sciences, Arts and Science disciplines. Crucially, they develop a distinctive toolkit to intersect and integrate disciplines through case studies, research opportunities and capstone experiences).
  4. Multiple Literacies: Aspirational outcomes to become versed and literate in several areas as a community of well-rounded, local and global citizens (e.g. through field trips and out-of-classroom learning experiences).
