BASc(GHD)

Short Description

The BASc(GHD) help students develop the foundational multidisciplinary and international perspectives, the core blocks of knowledge and the people and systems oriented competencies needed to succeed in modern health and development related fields.

The curriculum combines:

  • Basic to intermediate level courses across multiple Faculties (Architecture, Business and Economics, Law, Medicine, Science, Social Sciences)
  • Advanced seminars and case studies
  • Placements in local/overseas health and development organisations
  • Mentoring on career choices and leadership
  • BASc courses on leadership and big data analytics

A distinctive feature of the programme is a compulsory capstone, during which students will be placed in leading health and development organisations such as UN agencies, Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs), contract research organization (CRO), philanthropic foundations, etc., for a 6-month experience facilitated by HKU.

Remark:

  1. Level 2 in Liberal Studies achieved in previous sitting(s) will be considered in lieu of Citizenship and Social Development.
  2. Other Language subjects will be used as unspecified elective subjects. Please refer to hku.hk/dse for the minimum requirement.

Candidates with level 4 in English Language, if admitted, will be required to take 6 additional credits in Core University English to complete their degree studies.

The calculation of programme score considers category A subjects and may include Mathematics Extended Module 1 or 2 or category C subject whichever is higher. Please refer to hku.hk/dse for details.

The result(s) of Liberal Studies, Combined Science and Integrated Science achieved in previous sitting(s) will also be considered.

"Attained with Distinction" obtained prior to 2018, or "Attained with Distinction (I)" or "Attained with Distinction (II)" obtained in or after 2018, in Applied Learning subjects (other than Applied Learning Chinese) will be used as additional supporting information. In the meantime, student learning experiences in Applied Learning subjects may be considered within the context of other learning experiences in their application.

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination

In general, most of the programmes offered by HKU consider the best results achieved by candidates in different combination of sittings, except for a few programmes which only consider the latest results.  Few programmes may also impose a penalty on HKDSE repeaters.  Please refer to https://www.hku.hk/dse for details.
