Short Description

The Bachelor of Science in Bioinformatics is a four-year full-time credit-based programme leading to the award of a degree in BSc (Bioinformatics).

This programme emphasises data science skills coupled with knowledge of biomedical sciences. This combination ensures that graduates are well equipped to work in innovative areas of growth such as genomic technology, precision medicine, digital and mobile health, big data analysis of electronic medical data, and global health analytics.

Students will also be offered two related new minors in Digital Health and Biomedical Data Science, which will be suitable for all HKU undergraduate students. These minors will equip students from diverse backgrounds to learn key skills in bioinformatics and their applications in various biomedical application domains.

  1. "Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education” is referred to as “HKDSE”.
  2. "Attained with Distinction" obtained prior to 2018, or "Attained with Distinction (I)" or "Attained with Distinction (II)" obtained in or after 2018, in Applied Learning subjects (other than Applied Learning Chinese) will be used as additional supporting information. In the meantime, student learning experiences in Applied Learning subjects may be considered within the context of other learning experiences in their application.
  3. Level 2 in Liberal Studies achieved in previous sitting will be considered in lieu of Citizenship and Social Development.

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination

In general, most of the programmes offered by HKU consider the best results achieved by candidates in different combination of sittings, except for a few programmes which only consider the latest results.  Few programmes may also impose a penalty on HKDSE repeaters.  Please refer to https://www.hku.hk/dse for details.
