Short Description

The BA in Music programme provides instruction in the study of music as a humanistic discipline and offers extensive opportunities for the development of practical skills. The Music Department at CUHK boasts an international teaching team with a wide range of expertise, and has nurtured important musicians of Chinese and Western music for decades. Its library and archival collections are among the most important in Asia. It has its own symphony orchestra, wind orchestra, and choir, in addition to ensembles devoted to Chinese music, jazz, early music, and new music.

(1) The two subjects may include:
  (i) 2 New Senior Secondary elective subjects; or
  (ii) 1 New Senior Secondary elective subject and Mathematics (Extended Part) Module I or Module II.
(2)  Music is preferred.


REMARKS:

  1. Applicants are strongly advised to state their academic interest and musical experience in the "Additional Information" of their JUPAS application.
  2. As a reference, students should have attained a level of proficiency in their main instrument / voice at or above Grade 8 (ABRSM / Trinity College).
  3. Students should, if possible, provide letters of recommendation from music teachers / music professionals.

Note 2:
The two subjects may include:
(i) 2 New Senior Secondary elective subjects#; or
(ii) 1 New Senior Secondary elective subject and Mathematics (Extended Part) Module I or Module II.    

#Other Language subjects (Grade E or above) will be considered as an unspecified elective subject in fulfilling (i) above.

"Attained with Distinction I/II" in Applied Learning subjects will be accepted by some programmes as an extra subject for awarding bonus points. For details, please click here.     

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination

Most programmes offered by CUHK consider the best results in the same subject taken by a candidate in more than one sitting of HKDSE.  Some programmes may have specific arrangements and the admission scores of candidates seeking admission on the strength of results from more than one sitting of HKDSE may be adjusted.  Details of calculation of scores in more than one sitting of HKDSE for the 2020-21 entry will be finalised and posted at the admissions website (admission.cuhk.edu.hk).
