Chinese Studies 中國研究

CHINESE STUDIES

Short Description

BA in Chinese studies is a multi-disciplinary, primarily English-taught undergraduate programme which offers an integrated exploration of the complexities of Chinese history, economy, governance, business, culture, literature and contemporary society. With an emphasis on interactive teaching, international exchange, and immersive study, our programme is ideal for students intent on becoming globally-oriented China experts, cross-cultural communicators and network-builders. This major is designed for two streams of students distinguished by Chinese language fluency, i.e. 1) International Stream (IS) and 2) Chinese Native-Speaker Stream (CNSS). Students in each stream pursue a subset of learning offerings tailored to their language capacities while completing most of their course work in a shared learning environment in which international and Chinese-native speaker students learn from each other and pursue collaborative projects together.

Special features of the programme include 1) adopting an interdisciplinary approach to exploring Greater China; 2) training students to gain an integrated understanding of China’s past, present, and future; 3) offering interactive instruction in a “liberal arts” mode and immersive learning through “on-the-ground” sociocultural experience in Greater China; 4) emphasizing intensive empirical research to equip students with strong analytical and communication skills; 5) providing an international-oriented network for developing careers in Hong Kong, mainland China, and abroad.
