Short Description
Launched in 2005, Global Business Studies (GBS, internationally known as GLOBE – Global Learning Opportunities in Business Education) is a global undergraduate business programme jointly offered by The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) in Asia, Copenhagen Business School (CBS) in Europe, and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) in North America. GLOBE, the acronym of “Global Learning Opportunities in Business Education”, summarises the key feature of the partnership efforts – to provide students with opportunities in learning business around the world. The unparalleled learning experience provided by GLOBE equips students not only with professional knowledge but also a strong global business sense and an international perspective, which are the qualities valued in today’s dynamic globalised world economy.
GBS students form an international cohort of approximate 54 students with elite students from CBS and UNC and spend 18 months together in the GLOBE programme. Unlike other exchange opportunities, GLOBE is innovative in its provision of multicultural experience and long-lasting network to approximate 54 students from different parts of the world as an international cohort through a structured exchange programme. Students from each partner institution study together with outstanding international students. They are exposed to different settings across three continents for developing their global mindset through a comprehensive and internationally-oriented curriculum and other experiential learning. They can also build an international network that prepares them for a culturally-diversified career in the future.
Such a structured exchange programme enables students to take exclusive courses offered by three top-ranked business schools to gain comprehensive and up-to-date business knowledge and the latest practices adopted by business leaders in the market. Students are required to study for one term at CBS to learn the European approach to business operations, one term at CUHK to learn about Asian business, and one term at UNC to learn the American business practices. Courses focus on case studies, international management issues, and the understanding of business climates around the world. GBS students are expected to understand the interconnectedness and interdependence of the business environment in the global marketplace and to understand the similarities and differences in business operations in Asia, Europe, and North America. In addition to regional business courses, students may take elective courses of their personal interests.
Their classroom learning is further reinforced by study trips. Through attending executive briefings at selected organisations, students gain first-hand exposure to foreign business operations and different management styles.
GBS students may participate in summer internship programmes locally or globally. Some students in previous cohorts received return offers at the beginning of their final year of study, soon after completion of their summer internship. Top multinational companies, international financial institutions, consulting firms and other corporations target GBS graduates as recruits as they possess strong communication skills, extensive international exposures and a global mindset.
Some graduates pursue further study and were admitted to Oxford University, Cambridge University, Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, and Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Most programmes offered by CUHK consider the best results in the same subject taken by a candidate in more than one sitting of HKDSE. Some programmes may have specific arrangements and the admission scores of candidates seeking admission on the strength of results from more than one sitting of HKDSE may be adjusted. Details of calculation of scores in more than one sitting of HKDSE for the 2023-24 entry will be finalised and posted at the admissions website (admission.cuhk.edu.hk).
