PROF ACCOUNTANCY

Short DescriptionUpdated

Accounting is the language of business. The BBA in Professional Accountancy (PACC) programme is designed to nurture professional accountants and specialists in accounting-related areas.  The programme provides students with both accounting and business knowledge, skills and values that will help them become future leaders in the accounting and business communities.  On top of academic study, the programme puts a lot of emphasis on developing students’ leadership, analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal and communication skills through co-curricular activities.

Students may specialize in one of the following streams under the PACC programme:

Global Accounting

To cater for the growing demand in the business world for professionals with global mindset and leadership capability, the Global Accounting stream is offered to elite accounting students who aspire to acquire a global mindset as well as an understanding of international accounting practices and issues.  Students will apply for the stream after completing their first year of study. Students in the stream will attend soft skills and leadership skills workshops, gain international exposure through non-local training experience, with scholarships support based on academic merit.

Global Tax and Governance

The Global Tax and Governance stream is offered in response to an increasing interest of our students to know more about tax and governance issues as well as the profession’s desire to have more accounting graduates who are better versed in these areas.  The stream is particularly relevant to students who are interested in developing their future careers in the tax, governance and compliance areas.

Finance for Accountants

To maintain and promote the competitiveness of Hong Kong as one of the leading financial centre, it is vital to nurture talents who are knowledgeable in both accounting and finance areas.  A new Finance for Accountants stream will be offered in 2019-2020, subject to the University senate’s approval.  In addition to accounting courses, students will be exposed to a wide array of finance courses such as corporate finance, international finance, financial markets, investment analysis and portfolio management.

In response to the rise of the digital era, the PACC programme has introduced a new “Accounting Data Analytics for Business” course within its curriculum to strengthen students’ data analytics skills.  Apart from academic courses, the programme invites business professionals to speak to our students regularly with an aim to provide students with practical insights and broaden their business exposure. There are also ample opportunities to join exchange and internship programmes and to apply for scholarships.

The PACC programme is well recognised by international professional and accreditation bodies, such as AACSB International, the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants (HKICPA), Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) and CPA Australia. All PACC graduates are eligible to apply for the HKICPA’s qualification programme and to take other professional examinations. Our PACC graduates perform outstandingly in professional examinations and case competitions and are highly sought-after, with most of them being recruited by the Big-4 CPA firms. Some PACC graduates join companies in other sectors, such as banking, finance and consultancy.
