Short Description
This double-degree curriculum is jointly offered by the Faculty of Education and the Faculty of Arts. It allows students to obtain two degrees in five years and to meet the language requirements for Chinese Language teachers recommended by the HKSAR Government’s Standing Committee on Language Education and Research.
The curriculum integrates academic and professional studies in language education. Students pursue a programme of study in Chinese language, literature and culture in the Faculty of Arts, along with Education Professional Core courses in the Faculty of Education. Professional aspects of the double degree are phased in gradually over the five years, including pedagogical, psychological and sociological courses, and teaching practice in Hong Kong primary and secondary schools.
Note: Students are expected to be proficient in Cantonese and Putonghua, and are able to read and write Traditional Chinese.

Candidates should have knowledge of spoken Cantonese and Putonghua, and traditional Chinese characters.
The calculation of programme score considers category A subjects and may include Mathematics Extended Module 1 or 2 or category C subject whichever is higher. Please refer to hku.hk/dse for details.
The result(s) of Liberal Studies, Combined Science and Integrated Science achieved in previous sitting(s) will also be considered.

Remark:
- "Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education” is referred to as “HKDSE”.
- "Attained with Distinction" obtained prior to 2018, or "Attained with Distinction (I)" or "Attained with Distinction (II)" obtained in or after 2018, in Applied Learning subjects (other than Applied Learning Chinese) will be used as additional supporting information. In the meantime, student learning experiences in Applied Learning subjects may be considered within the context of other learning experiences in their application.
- Level 2 in Liberal Studies achieved in previous sitting will be considered in lieu of Citizenship and Social Development.
- Other Language subjects will be used as unspecified elective subjects. Please refer to hku.hk/dse for details.
- The result(s) of Combined Science and Integrated Science achieved in previous sitting(s) will also be considered.
Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination
In general, most of the programmes offered by HKU consider the best results achieved by candidates in different combination of sittings, except for a few programmes which only consider the latest results. Few programmes may also impose a penalty on HKDSE repeaters. Please refer to https://www.hku.hk/dse for details.
