Short Description

The Faculty of Education in collaboration with the Faculty of Science offers an inter-disciplinary five-year honours degree focusing on the study and teaching of the science subjects Biology, Chemistry and Physics in the local senior secondary school curriculum.

The double-degree curriculum integrates academic and professional studies at-depth in science education. Students complete a Science major programme in the Faculty of Science, and Education Professional Core courses in the Faculty of Education. Professional aspects of the double degree are phased in gradually over the five years, including pedagogical, psychological and sociological courses, and teaching practice in Hong Kong secondary schools. The curriculum focuses on the teaching of the science subjects in local mainstream schools.

"Attained with Distinction" obtained prior to 2018, or "Attained with Distinction (I)" or "Attained with Distinction (II)" obtained in or after 2018, in Applied Learning subjects (other than Applied Learning Chinese) will be used as additional supporting information. In the meantime, student learning experiences in Applied Learning subjects may be considered within the context of other learning experiences in their application.
  3. Level 2 in Liberal Studies achieved in previous sitting will be considered in lieu of Citizenship and Social Development.

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination

In general, most of the programmes offered by HKU consider the best results achieved by candidates in different combination of sittings, except for a few programmes which only consider the latest results.  Few programmes may also impose a penalty on HKDSE repeaters.  Please refer to https://www.hku.hk/dse for details.
