Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery 內外全科醫學士

MBBS

Short Description

The MBBS curriculum is not only about training doctors but also personal development and fulfilment. Alongside learning that takes place within hospitals, students will gain first-hand experience in a wide variety of community-based settings that involve family physicians, maternal and child health services, hospices and patient support groups.

Problem-based, small-group tutorials require every student to participate and be active in managing their learning, and to question both what and how they learn. These tutorials are also effective for developing your interpersonal communication and teamwork skills.

Ethical principles and humanitarian values are absolutely essential to training doctors. You will learn how these principles and values underpin health care practice, as well as your professional and legal obligations, through the medical ethics and medical humanities programmes.

Inter-professional education is an emerging and progressive area in modern health care. The Faculty has also taken the lead to introduce an inter-professional pathway so that medical, nursing, pharmacy students can have the opportunities to interact and to work with each other – much like the real-life situation after your graduation.

MBBS (Distinguished MedScholar)

Students admitted with an outstanding academic achievement plus admission interview results are given the option to enter MBBS (Distinguished MedScholar), a study track through which they can complete MBBS in six years plus a Master of Research in Medicine (MRes[Med]) to be undertaken during Enrichment Year (EY) in the third year. Upon completion of MBBS and MRes[Med] and the one-year internship, students will receive financial support from the Faculty to pursue a PhD at a renowned university and potentially join the Faculty as clinical academics upon completion of PhD. Besides MRes[Med], students can also take other Enrichment Year options.

Students admitted to MBBS (Distinguished MedScholar) are guaranteed the following provisions:

  • guaranteed residential places* in student hall(s), with hall fees to be covered by possible financial support from HKUMed; and
