Short Description

This programme provides training that leads to a professionally recognised qualification in social -work practice. The curriculum covers areas including social welfare and social policy, specialised social -work theory and practice, human behaviour and the social environment, research, law, sociology and psychology. Students are required to complete social- work practice laboratory courses, advanced courses using problem-based learning, and two fieldwork placements in local or overseas agencies under professional supervision.

The calculation of programme score considers category A subjects and may include Mathematics Extended Module 1 or 2 or category C subject whichever is higher. Please refer to hku.hk/dse for details.

"Attained with Distinction" obtained prior to 2018, or "Attained with Distinction (I)" or "Attained with Distinction (II)" obtained in or after 2018, in Applied Learning subjects (other than Applied Learning Chinese) will be used as additional supporting information. In the meantime, student learning experiences in Applied Learning subjects may be considered within the context of other learning experiences in their application.
  3. Level 2 in Liberal Studies achieved in previous sitting will be considered in lieu of Citizenship and Social Development.
  4. Other Language subjects will be used as unspecified elective subjects. Please refer to hku.hk/dse for details.
  5. The result(s) of Combined Science and Integrated Science achieved in previous sitting(s) will also be considered.

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination

In general, most of the programmes offered by HKU consider the best results achieved by candidates in different combination of sittings, except for a few programmes which only consider the latest results.  Few programmes may also impose a penalty on HKDSE repeaters.  Please refer to https://www.hku.hk/dse for details.
