Short Description
The BEng in Computer Engineering program (CPEG) is jointly run by the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering, and the Department of Computer Science and Engineering. The program aims to provide students an in-depth understanding of both hardware and software, and their cross-interaction in the design of cutting-edge electronic and computer systems.
Well-integrated, Challenging and Flexible Curriculum
The CPEG program is carefully designed to offer a rich, well-balanced and challenging curriculum to our students. Our curriculum provides trainings in software, hardware, architectural and engineering aspects of computer-based systems to students. Students learn programming, data structure, computer organization, operating system, signals, electronic circuits and embedded systems in the state-of-the-art facilities of both Departments. Students can further explore their interests with our wide range of areas of specialization such as artificial intelligence, multimedia, graphics, software, database, robotics, communications, semiconductor, signal processing, networking etc. CPEG is a 2-in-1 well-integrated program!

Graduates of the CPEG program are equipped with a solid foundation in both hardware and software, opening doors to diverse career opportunities that span multiple fields including applications of information and communication technology. Potential job roles include system analyst, network analyst, application developer, game designer, cloud engineer, full-stack software/hardware engineer, IC design engineer, hardware engineer, data analyst, IT consultant etc. Employers of our graduates include world-class local and international companies in a wide variety of industries.

- Non-Chinese speaking (NCS) students may use an alternative Chinese subject, an HKDSE Other Language subject, or an HKDSE Applied Learning Chinese subject to satisfy the University’s Chinese language requirement.
- The result(s) of Liberal Studies in previous sitting(s) will also be considered in HKUST General Entrance Requirement. Level 2 or above is required.
"Attained" level in Citizenship and Social Development and the result(s) of Liberal Studies will not be considered in the admissions score calculation. - The above subjects refer to Category A subjects.
- Score 3 or above in Category C (Other Languages) subjects will also be considered as 2nd Elective. Please refer to https://join.hkust.edu.hk/admissions/jupas/ for the conversion of HKDSE level/grades to scores.
Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination
Once the minimum entrance requirements have been met, the best results achieved in all sittings will be used for calculating admissions scores.
