Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering 機械及航空航天工程學系
MAE
Short Description
The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) offers two undergraduate programs: BEng in Mechanical Engineering and BEng in Aerospace Engineering. Both programs aim to equip our students with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills required for a successful engineering career. Our programs foster self-directed learning, designed to produce holistically educated professionals who can not only tackle scientific and technical challenges but also think critically and adapt to a rapidly changing world.
The MAE Department offers a holistic educational journey that encompasses:
- A robust foundation in core engineering principles.
- Exposure to cutting-edge technologies and industrial experiences.
- Hands-on laboratories and design projects.
- An integrative experience in the fourth year: either a year-long team design project or a five-month Co-Op placement at an industry partner.
This carefully crafted blend of theory and practice ensures that MAE graduates are well-prepared to either enter the job market as competent mechanical/aerospace engineers or pursue advanced studies at the postgraduate level. At MAE, we are committed to shaping the next generation of innovative engineers who will drive progress in our field and make meaningful contributions to society.
Students admitted by the MAE Department may declare one of the following major options:
- BEng in Mechanical Engineering
Mechanical Engineering program focuses on fundamentals in the first stage, integrates engineering sciences with practical experience in the second stage, and offers specialization options in Building Services, Mechatronics, or Structure in the third stage. Graduates can work as design engineers, project managers, research and development engineers, quality control engineers, and more. They can also pursue further studies or specialize in areas such as thermal systems, materials engineering, or mechatronics.
- BEng in Aerospace Engineering
Aerospace Engineering program provides a comprehensive understanding of aerodynamics, aircraft structures, propulsion, and more. It prepares graduates for careers in aerospace and related fields, with a focus on sustainable engineering practices and new aviation technologies. Graduates can work as aerospace engineers, aircraft designers, flight test engineers, propulsion engineers, avionics engineers, and more. With the increasing focus on sustainable aviation and new flying technologies, there is a growing demand for aerospace engineers in fields such as green aviation, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), and space exploration.
Remarks:
For students who are interested to learn more about the new technologies may opt into the Extended Major in Artificial Intelligence (AI), or Extended Major in Digital Media and Creative Arts (DMCA) after Year 1. Students enrolled in an Extended Major will take extra credits in AI or DMCA in addition to their Major Program. Students who are interested in the Extended Major in AI major may also choose the School-based program choice JS5282 ENGG+AI.
