BBA in Information Systems 工商管理學士(資訊系統學)

IS

Short Description

The BBA Information Systems (IS) program is offered by one of the top 20 Information Systems departments in the world. Nowadays, information systems play a critical role in driving business innovations in organizations. The IS program trains students to become technically-proficient business professionals with the ability to analyze data, design, implement, and audit Information Systems for businesses. The program is suitable for students who want to utilize Information Systems to solve business problems.

Our curriculum covers basic concepts to complex theories required for the applications of information systems to businesses. Prior background in science or Information Technology (IT) is not required for admissions. Students are required to take a combination of business foundation courses and technology management courses (e.g. Innovation Management, Business Analytics) as the basis to pursue in-depth knowledge in IS.

IS students are offered two options, namely "Business Analytics" and "Information Systems Auditing" to suit their own academic interest and career plan.

The IS program recognizes the significance of enrichment opportunities and the close connection with the industry. In addition to encouraging students to participate in one-year internship programs, and local and international case competitions, the program offers students networking opportunities with Hong Kong business leaders. For example, the program works closely with the HKUST ISACA Student Group to offer external engagement opportunities for our students.

Our graduates are in high demand in the job market and pursue a career in, but not limited to, these professional specializations: (1) business analytics, business intelligence and big data, (2) information systems auditing, (3) fintech, (4) cybersecurity, (5) technology and innovation management, (6) technology entrepreneurship and (7) electronic/mobile commerce.

Extended Major

IS students may apply for the extended major in Artificial Intelligence or Digital Media and Creative Arts at the end of the 3rd term of study, if they satisfy the extended major requirement. Students completing the extended major will graduate with a title bearing both the traditional major subject they selected and the extended major. For details, please refer to "JS5300 Business & Management".

Remarks:

The Year 1 curricula of JS5314 IS and JS5300 B&M are identical. JS5314 allows students who have a special interest in BBA IS to directly enter the major. Those admitted to JS5300 may apply to enter IS or other business majors via the major selection exercises held at the end of the first three terms. Students interested in IS should include either or both JS5314 and JS5300 in their program choices. Please click here for details of JS5300 Business and Management.

Band A applicants who show talents and potentials for business study will be invited to engagement activities organized by HKUST Business School in May–June 2025.
