BSc in Risk Management and Business Intelligence 理學士(風險管理及商業智能學)
RMBI
Short Description
Combining the world-class expertise of HKUST School of Business and Management, School of Engineering, and School of Science, the BSc program in Risk Management and Business Intelligence (RMBI) integrates risk management and business intelligence studies in one single undergraduate program to equip graduates with quantitative techniques and business knowledge to assess and mitigate risks effectively with the analysis and management of the ever-growing volume of business data. The curriculum encompasses:
- Understanding of risks in financial institutions and other firms, including market risks, credit risks, operational risks, and other business risks;
- Mathematical models and methods for assessing and managing risks; and
- Data/text mining methods and advanced technologies to analyze and manage the increasingly large volume of business data available for decision-making
RMBI students are required to take courses in four key areas: (a) integration of risk management and business intelligence; (b) financial investment, accounting and business; (c) risk assessment and modelling; (d) business intelligence tools and technologies. A wide range of disciplinary elective courses are offered.
An academic option "Financial Technology" is provided to students who wish to pursue a deeper understanding of financial technology and its engineering foundations, crypto ventures and the latest development in the area.
The Dual Degree 4+1 Pathway (BScRMBI + MScFintech) allows motivated RMBI students to pursue more in-depth exposure and development in Fintech. Selected students will start taking MSc Fintech courses in their UG year 4, and be admitted to the MSc program as full-time students in the following year. Students in this 4+1 pathway will complete both degrees in 5 years and might save up to 40% MSc tuition fee.
The corporate-sponsored capstone projects connect students with leading companies such as Ernst & Young, Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Insurance Authority, Fubon Bank and WeBank. The in-depth study of business cases allow students to apply the classroom learning to real-world situations, cultivate creativity and critical thinking, and develop project management skills.
RMBI students enjoy the opportunities to join a variety of enrichment activities including overseas exchange, seminars, internship, Mentorship Program, RMBI Symposium, International Business Case Competitions, and various professional training and workshops to enhance their learning through hands-on practice, enrich their problem-solving and communication ability, and excel in their career and personal development.
RMBI students are well educated for a wide range of functions and industries including analysts and consultants in the banking sector, asset management, accounting and audit firms, management consultancies and IT advisory, etc.
RMBI students may apply for the extended major in Artificial Intelligence or Digital Media and Creative Arts at the end of the 3rd term of study, if they satisfy the extended major requirement. RMBI students completing the extended major will graduate with a title bearing both the RMBI major and the extended major. For details, please refer to "JS5300 Business & Management".
