BEng (Hons) Scheme in Mechanical Engineering (Mechanical Engineering / Product Analysis and Engineering Design) 機械工程學(榮譽)工學士組合課程 (機械工程學 / 產品分析及工程設計學)

Short Description

Students admitted into the scheme will study together during the first two years and then complete their preferred programme normally within the next two years until graduation.

Free selection of either one programme for Years 3 and 4:

BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering 機械工程學(榮譽)工學士
We nurture mechanical engineering graduates who are able to apply modern technology to solve and manage multidisciplinary engineering problems. They have excellent employment opportunities in many industries/businesses, and are able to start their careers as mechanical engineers, service engineers, consultant engineers, design engineers or project engineers.

BEng (Hons) in Product Analysis and Engineering Design 產品分析及工程設計學(榮譽)工學士
This unique interdisciplinary programme educates students to synthesise technology, design and business in the design and development of high-value-added products. Graduates have excellent opportunities to start their careers in product design and development, engineering consultancy, environmental engineering and the manufacturing sector. In addition to serving the community as professional engineers, developing their own start-up product businesses is also a career option for our graduates.

  • The Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) Scheme in Mechanical Engineering includes the following two awards:
    • BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering 機械工程學(榮譽)工學士
    • BEng (Hons) in Product Analysis and Engineering Design 產品分析及工程設計學(榮譽)工學士

Admission to the BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering or the BEng (Hons) in Product Analysis and Engineering Design programmes

  • Students who wish to enter the BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering programme or the BEng (Hons) in Product Analysis and Engineering Design programme should apply for admission to the BEng (Hons) Scheme in Mechanical Engineering programme.
  • Students are allowed to enrol on any awards without being subject to further assessment.

Deferred Choice between BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering and BEng (Hons) in Product Analysis and Engineering Design

  • Students who are admitted to the scheme study together during the first 2 years, and then typically complete their preferred programmes within the next 2 years before graduation. This arrangement enables students to make their choice of study after they have obtained a better understanding of the programmes during the first 2 years.

Secondary Major in AI and Data Analytics

  • The option of a Secondary Major in AI and Data Analytics (AIDA) is available to the students of BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering. Admission to the Secondary Major is on a competitive basis and subject to a different credit requirement for graduation.

  2. Other Language subjects (i.e. Category C) offered in the HKDSE Examination will be accepted as elective subjects. Grade E or above is required.
  3. If students have taken both M1 and M2, they will only be considered as one subject and the best grade will be taken into consideration during admission selection.
  4. Students endorsed by schools for meeting EDB’s specified circumstances and having achieved the required grade in Chinese in one of the following examinations will be regarded as obtaining a Level 3 in HKDSE Chinese for meeting our entrance requirements:
    Exam                      Level                      Min. Grade
    GCE O-Level C
    GCSE N/A C / 4
    IGCSE N/A C / 4
    HKDSE ApL(C) N/A Attained
    GCE A-Level E
    GCE AS-Level E
  5. No penalty is applied to applicants with multiple attempts in HKDSE Examination. Similar subjects are considered once and the best grade will be taken into consideration during admission selection.
  6. There is no compulsory subject requirement for our schemes / programmes. Preferred subjects, if applicable, are listed in the 'Entrance Requirements & Subject Weightings' section of individual scheme / programme entries. Satisfactory performance in preferred subjects will have a positive influence on admission selection. However, applicants who have not taken the preferred subjects will still be considered for admission but they may need to take relevant underpinning subjects after admission to PolyU.
  7. For admission to Scheme in Nursing, the BSc (Hons) in Nursing and BSc (Hons) in Mental Health Nursing, students must have Level 3 or above in at least two HKDSE elective subjects from Category A. Please click here for details of the HKDSE subject categories.
  8. The study places offered by PolyU through JUPAS are intended primarily for admission of local school leavers. Applicants who are studying a scheme / programme or have attained qualifications at the same or above level as the schemes / programmes for which they are applying will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  9. Please note that local and non-local applicants are considered under different admission routes with different intake quotas. Non-local applicants seeking admission on the basis of HKDSE results should submit their applications directly to PolyU. Please click here for details on the admission requirements for non-local applicants.
  10. Applicants who fall short slightly on the general entrance requirements of our schemes / programmes but meet the following conditions will be specially considered for admission:
