SSSDP will continue to be administered by a two-tier arrangement in which a subsidy of up to HK$74,600 per academic year will be provided to each applicant admitted to a laboratory-based undergraduate programme while a subsidy of up to HK$42,800 per academic year will be provided to each applicant admitted to an undergraduate programme that is not laboratory-based in the 2020 – 2021 academic year.

The HKSAR Government announced on 21 September 2020 that the subsidy amounts of SSSDP in the 2021 – 2022 academic year will be adjusted upward according to the movement of the Composite Consumer Price Index.  The annual subsidy amounts for laboratory-based undergraduate programmes and non-laboratory-based undergraduate programmes will be increased to HK$76,800 and HK$44,100 respectively.
