Short Description

The four-year Bachelor of Arts (BA) programme offers you with an opportunity to explore and enhance your knowledge and experience in the scope of arts and humanities. At the first year of exploration, students are encouraged to pursue their own special interests but also to explore disciplines that are new to them. There is a wide range of choices in different subjects, and students are required to take at least 3 introductory Arts courses, normally including the pre-requisite(s) of the programme(s) in which they may plan to major or minor.

At the end of Year 1, students will choose at least one out of sixteen Arts major. The liberal and flexible curriculum enables student to develop their individual study plan within a guided and academically coherent framework at Year 2-4. They can pursue an additional Arts / non-Arts major, or up to two minors. Throughout the entire undergraduate program, there are ample opportunities for internships, studying abroad, and field trips.

HKU Faculty of Arts Entrance Scholarship for Bachelor of Arts Programmes
The Faculty of Arts offers the Entrance Scholarship to students with outstanding HKDSE results. The award amount covers up to four years of full tuition for the BA studies. For details, please click here.

Young Global Leader Award
This award is designed to recognize and support top applicants majoring in Global and Area Studies. Young Global Leaders will receive an annual HK$10,000 scholarship and enjoy customized access to small-group discussions with faculty and mentoring by professors; Faculty Global Exploration Fund up to HK$30,000; Study abroad opportunities—student exchange & overseas programmes in world-class universities; and HKU Arts internship opportunities & career preparation workshops.

Dual Degree programmes at HKU Faculty of Arts
The Faculty offers two four-year dual BA degree programmes in collaboration with two highly respected international universities. For the one jointly offered with the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences Po), students will spend the first two years in France and the third and fourth year in Hong Kong. For the one jointly offered with the University of California, Berkeley, students will spend the first two years in Hong Kong and the third and fourth year in the USA.

The calculation of programme score considers category A subjects and may include Mathematics Extended Module 1 or 2 or category C subject whichever is higher. Please refer to hku.hk/dse for details.

Non-school candidates and candidates who have obtained level 3 in HKDSE English Language may be interviewed and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

The result(s) of Liberal Studies, Combined Science and Integrated Science achieved in previous sitting(s) will also be considered.

Remark:

  1. "Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education” is referred to as “HKDSE”.
  2. "Attained with Distinction" obtained prior to 2018, or "Attained with Distinction (I)" or "Attained with Distinction (II)" obtained in or after 2018, in Applied Learning subjects (other than Applied Learning Chinese) will be used as additional supporting information. In the meantime, student learning experiences in Applied Learning subjects may be considered within the context of other learning experiences in their application.
  3. Level 2 in Liberal Studies achieved in previous sitting will be considered in lieu of Citizenship and Social Development.
  4. Other Language subjects will be used as unspecified elective subjects. Please refer to hku.hk/dse for details.
  5. The result(s) of Combined Science and Integrated Science achieved in previous sitting(s) will also be considered.

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination

In general, most of the programmes offered by HKU consider the best results achieved by candidates in different combination of sittings, except for a few programmes which only consider the latest results.  Few programmes may also impose a penalty on HKDSE repeaters.  Please refer to https://www.hku.hk/dse for details.
