Short Description
If students are interested in studying human behaviour and society or wish to become a future leader in public service, education, industry and commerce, the Bachelor of Social Sciences should be the choice. The flexible programme structure provides students with freedom to decide which discipline they wish to major in after the first year of study, without any quota constraint. Off-campus learning is emphasized through the participation in internships or overseas academic exchange to provide opportunities for students to apply the knowledge acquired to the practical environment and to enhance their international exposure.
Students may choose to major in one of the five core disciplines including China Studies; Geography; Politics and Public Administration; Social Policy and Social Development; and Sociology. They may also opt for one of the following programmes as an additional second major, including Cognitive Science; Counselling; Criminology; Media and Cultural Studies; Neuroscience; Psychology and Urban Governance. Alternatively, students may opt for a second major / a minor in a variety of disciplines from Faculties of Arts, Business and Economics, Engineering, Law and Science.

The calculation of programme score considers category A subjects and may include Mathematics Extended Module 1 or 2 or category C subject whichever is higher. Please refer to hku.hk/dse for details.
The result(s) of Liberal Studies, Combined Science and Integrated Science achieved in previous sitting(s) will also be considered.

Remark:
- "Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education” is referred to as “HKDSE”.
- "Attained with Distinction" obtained prior to 2018, or "Attained with Distinction (I)" or "Attained with Distinction (II)" obtained in or after 2018, in Applied Learning subjects (other than Applied Learning Chinese) will be used as additional supporting information. In the meantime, student learning experiences in Applied Learning subjects may be considered within the context of other learning experiences in their application.
- Level 2 in Liberal Studies achieved in previous sitting will be considered in lieu of Citizenship and Social Development.
- Other Language subjects will be used as unspecified elective subjects. Please refer to hku.hk/dse for details.
- The result(s) of Combined Science and Integrated Science achieved in previous sitting(s) will also be considered.
Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination
In general, most of the programmes offered by HKU consider the best results achieved by candidates in different combination of sittings, except for a few programmes which only consider the latest results. Few programmes may also impose a penalty on HKDSE repeaters. Please refer to https://www.hku.hk/dse for details.
