Short Description
The Programme is a comprehensive training in science that:
- Develops students’ capabilities in quantitative and logical reasoning
- Cultivates students’ ability to tackle novel situations and solve complex problems
Features
- One entry in application for a choice of 11 Science Majors and 7 Intensive Majors
- Up to 2 years’ time to choose a Major
- Flexibility in changing Majors
- No quota for any Science Major
- Students may take a 2nd Major or a Minor or 2nd Minors in Science and non-Science disciplines
- One-on-one academic advising
Intensive Majors
- Allow students to specialise in a science discipline with enriched subject knowledge
- Seven intensive major programmes are offered
- Biological Sciences (Intensive) (144 credits)
- Chemistry (Intensive) (144 credits)
- Ecology & Biodiversity (Intensive) (144 credits)
- Geology (Intensive) (150 credits)
- Mathematics (Intensive) (144 credits)
- Molecular Biology & Biotechnology (Intensive) (144 credits)
- Physics (Intensive) (144 credits)
Minor in Science Entrepreneurship
- placing strong emphasis on practical experience and students are required to:
- acquire entrepreneurship-related internship experience and
- carry out a capstone project
- mentoring and internship opportunities offered by our Science alumni
- taking new courses tailor-made for this Minor and related courses currently offered by other Faculties
Articulation Pathways
- To Taught Postgraduate programmes at HKU Science
- An articulation pathway of attaching 6901 Bachelor of Science to the master programmes at HKU Science for outstanding students
- Students who are awarded the highest amount of scholarship will only need to pay 50% of tuition fee
- There is no quota for the aforementioned articulation pathway except for the one of Master of Data Science, of which a maximum of 2 places will be offered each year
- To Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) at University of Melbourne (UoMelb)
- In collaboration with University of Melbourne (UoMelb) in Australia, HKU Science will provide a pathway to BSc 6901 students majoring in Biological Sciences, Molecular Biology & Biotechnology, Ecology & Biodiversity, Food & Nutritional Science, and Biochemistry to articulate into the DVM of the UoMelb
- Provides a new pathway to talented students who aspire to pursue a career in veterinary; students can obtain 2 degrees from the 2 universities – the HKU BSc degree and DVM in UoMelb in a minimum of 7 years
- Graduates can register as veterinary surgeons and practise in HK through Veterinary Surgeons Board of Hong Kong

- "Attained with Distinction" obtained prior to 2018, or "Attained with Distinction (I)" or "Attained with Distinction (II)" obtained in or after 2018, in Applied Learning subjects (other than Applied Learning Chinese) will be used as additional supporting information. In the meantime, student learning experiences in Applied Learning subjects may be considered within the context of other learning experiences in their application.

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination
In general, most of the programmes offered by HKU consider the best results achieved by candidates in different combination of sittings, except for a few programmes which only consider the latest results.
