Risk management and business intelligence form a vital part of a company's strategic planning and decision-making in our globalized era. Fast-paced developments in asset management, financial operations, marketing, healthcare, and other major challenges all indicate the essential need for firms to assess and minimize risk effectively with the analysis and management of the ever-growing volume of business data. The BSc in Risk Management and Business Intelligence is the first in Hong Kong to integrate these two fields and answer both market needs in one undergraduate program.

Combining the world-class expertise of HKUST’s Schools of Business and Management, Engineering, and Science, the cutting-edge RMBI program provides a curriculum to cater for the market needs with an emphasis on quantitative techniques and business knowledge, encompassing: 

  • Understanding of risks in financial institutions and other firms, including market risks, credit risks, operational risks, and business risks 
  • Mathematical models and methods for assessing and minimizing risks 
  • Classic data/text mining methods and advanced information technologies to analyze and manage the increasingly large volume of business data available for decision-making

Capstone Projects
Through in-depth study of business cases from corporate sponsors, students can learn to apply different areas of knowledge gained in their studies to real-world situations, build up creative and critical thinking, and develop their project management skills. Projects also help students establish future business links. Corporate sponsors have included AIA Group, Bloomberg L.P., Société Générale, Wing Lung Bank, Hospital Authority and Hong Kong Jockey Club.

RMBI students are well-trained for a wide range of positions including analysts and consultants for regional and global banks, asset management corporations, accounting and audit firms, professional consultancies and IT businesses etc.

The BSc program in Risk Management and Business Intelligence (RMBI) will be administered by the Department of Information Systems, Business Statistics and Operations Management of the School of Business and Management with effect from 1 September 2019, subject to approval from the Senate in April 2019.
