Short Description

The BA(Hons) Scheme in Design aims to educate innovative and mindful problem-solvers who are sensitive to social needs, and to equip them with the necessary intellectual, technical and managerial skills to facilitate their development as designers who will shape contemporary culture and invent desirable futures.

Remarks:
Students will be awarded one of the following titles upon successful completion of the graduation requirements of the discipline concerned:

  • BA(Hons) in Advertising Design (Stream Code: AD);
  • BA(Hons) in Communication Design (Stream Code: CD);
  • BA(Hons) in Environment and Interior Design (Stream Code: EID); or
  • BA(Hons) in Product Design (Stream Code: PRD).

There is no compulsory subject requirement. Preferred subjects with the highest weighting for admission score calculation include:
  • Chinese;
  • English;
  • Mathematics;
  • Liberal Studies;
  • Design and Applied Technology; and
  • Visual Arts.

Only those applicants who choose this programme as their Band A choice throughout the application process, and fulfil the University's minimum entrance requirements, will be considered.

All applicants are required to declare their intended choice of programme Major before the aptitude test stage.

For the BA(Hons) in Advertising Design, BA(Hons) in Communication Design and BA(Hons) in Environment and Interior Design, only those applicants who participate in the aptitude test and portfolio submission in mid/end May of the same year will be considered.

For the BA(Hons) in Product Design, only those applicants who participate in the aptitude test in mid/end May of the same year will be considered.

Applicants who passed the aptitude test and with top HKDSE scores (among the top 25% prioritization score range as a whole) will be directly offered a place in the Scheme, without having to attend an interview.

Flexibilities on admission selection are available as follows:

  1. Individual Broad Disciplines (BDs) / degree programmes will accept one relevant Applied Learning (ApL) subject for meeting the entrance requirements. An attainment at Attained with Distinction (I) level or above / Attained with Distinction (obtained in 2017 or before) is required.
  2. Other Language subjects (i.e. Category C) offered in the HKDSE Examination will be accepted as elective subjects. Grade E or above is required.
  3. If students have taken both M1 and M2, they will only be considered as one subject and the best grade will be taken into consideration during admission selection.
  4. Students endorsed by schools for meeting EDB’s specified circumstances and having achieved the required grade in Chinese in one of the following examinations will be regarded as obtaining a Level 3 in HKDSE Chinese for meeting our entrance requirements:

  5. No penalty is applied to applicants with multiple attempts in HKDSE Examination. Similar subjects are considered once and the best grade will be taken into consideration during admission selection.
  6. There is no compulsory subject requirement for our programmes. Preferred subjects, if applicable, are listed in the 'Entrance Requirements & Subject Weightings' section of individual programme entries. Satisfactory performance in preferred subjects will have a positive influence on admission selection. However, applicants who have not taken the preferred subjects will still be considered for admission but they may need to take relevant underpinning subjects after admission to PolyU.
  7. For admission to the BSc(Hons) in Nursing and BSc(Hons) in Mental Health Nursing, students must have Level 3 or above in at least two HKDSE elective subjects from Category A. Please refer to www.hkeaa.edu.hk/en/hkdse/assessment/subject_information/ for details of the HKDSE subject categories.
  8. The study places offered by PolyU through JUPAS are intended primarily for admission of local school leavers. Applicants who are studying a programme or have attained qualifications at the same or above level as the programmes for which they are applying will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
  9. Please note that local and non-local applicants are considered under different admission routes with different intake quotas. Non-local JUPAS applicants seeking admission on the basis of HKDSE results will be considered in competition with other non-local applicants holding various international qualifications. Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination

No penalty is applied to applicants with multiple attempts in HKDSE Examination. Similar subjects are considered once and the best grade will be taken into consideration during admission selection.
