The Department of Linguistics and Translation offers the programme BALLA (JS1109) designed to address the growing needs of Hong Kong and other Chinese communities for language professionals well versed in linguistics and language applications such as language teaching, translation, and IT-related language computing. The Department also encourages and promotes research in areas such as general linguistics, language technology, intelligent linguistic applications, and translation studies. According to the QS World University Rankings by Subject, Linguistics at City University of Hong Kong has been ranked among the top 50 universities worldwide for 11 consecutive years (from 2011 to 2021).
