BEng(Elite)
Short Description
The Faculty of Engineering aims to nurture highly talented and top-performing engineering students to be future leaders in frontier technology developments and rapidly advancing industries. The training flexibility and curriculum elements for these students are beyond the traditional engineering education requirements to prepare them to take up new challenges in various highly competitive engineering fields, such as, but not limited to, robotics, artificial intelligence, material technology, nanofabrication, semiconductor, construction automation, and sustainable development. Through freely choosing an engineering major, receiving academic/industrial mentorship, and participating in overseas exchanges, students can aim to pursue the most competitive career paths in either academic or industrial direction. Applicants can use one single code, 6303, to apply for the Bachelor of Engineering Elite Programme.
Elite students* will enjoy a series of privileges that enrich their studies at HKU Engineering:
- High Flexibility in Programme Major Selection (Subject to academic performance and availability.)
- In the end of Year 1, Elite students are eligible to freely select their preferred BEng programme majors from:
- Civil Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Data and System Engineering, Mechanical Engineering; or
- Faculty-based signature initiatives:
- Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Science in Engineering in Artificial Intelligence in Engineering (X+AI) programme
- Bachelor of Engineering in Robotics Engineering (ROBO)^
- Bachelor of Engineering and Master of Science in Engineering in Artificial Intelligence in Engineering (X+AI) programme
- Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science from the School of Computer and Data Science (SCDS) - a minimum cumulative GPA 3.3 would be required
- In the end of Year 1, Elite students are eligible to freely select their preferred BEng programme majors from:

- To assist elite students in learning from state-of-the art practices in the corresponding industry

- HKD $150,000 Scholarships
- Entrance scholarship of HKD $100,000 will be disbursed in four instalments
- Exchange scholarship of HKD $50,000 for each student
- Eligible for the CSHK HKU Engineering Flagship Programme Scholarship and Placement
- During their studies at HKU Engineering, Elite students will be eligible to apply and may be selected for a one-off HKD $40,000 scholarship sponsored by the China State Construction Engineering (Hong Kong) Limited (CSHK).
- In addition, they may be selected for an exclusive two month paid internship opportunity.
*Elite Status Requirement
Students must maintain “Elite” status with a minimum cumulative GPA (CGPA) of 3.0 at the end of each academic year in order to continue enjoying the exclusive access and scholarships mentioned above. Students who fail to meet the required CGPA will continue their studies at HKU Engineering but without these privileges.

Remark:
- Level 2 in Liberal Studies achieved in previous sitting(s) will be considered in lieu of Citizenship and Social Development.
- Other Language subjects will be used as unspecified elective subjects. Please refer to hku.hk/dse for the minimum requirement.
Level 3 or above in Mathematics (Extended Module 1 or Module 2) is preferred (but not required).
The calculation of programme score considers category A subjects and may include Mathematics Extended Module 1 or 2 and category C subject. Please refer to hku.hk/dse for details.
The result(s) of Liberal Studies, Combined Science and Integrated Science achieved in previous sitting(s) will also be considered.

Remark:
- "Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education” is referred to as “HKDSE”.
- "Attained with Distinction" obtained prior to 2018, or "Attained with Distinction (I)" or "Attained with Distinction (II)" obtained in or after 2018, in Applied Learning subjects (other than Applied Learning Chinese) will be used as additional supporting information. In the meantime, student learning experiences in Applied Learning subjects may be considered within the context of other learning experiences in their application.
- Level 2 in Liberal Studies achieved in previous sitting will be considered in lieu of Citizenship and Social Development.

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination
In general, most of the programmes offered by HKU consider the best results achieved by candidates in different combination of sittings, except for a few programmes which only consider the latest results. Few programmes may also impose a penalty on HKDSE repeaters. Please refer to https://www.hku.hk/dse for details.
