Short Description
The programme is designed to fuse foundational knowledge and cutting-edge technologies for optimising real-world systems. Our curriculum encompasses a diverse range of fundamental system analytics and computing disciplines, including data-driven optimization and system simulation and modelling. Additionally, students are exposed to innovative artificial intelligence and intelligent systems technologies. Through rigorous coursework and hands-on experiences that seamlessly blend theoretical concepts with advanced technologies, the programme offers students rich opportunities to engage in real-world projects and research that push the boundaries of technology.
Equipped with in-depth skills in data analytics, decision-making, robotics and automation, and human-machine interfaces, our students are empowered to pursue advanced studies and explore diverse career paths across a wide range of industries, including construction, logistics and transportation, robotics, healthcare engineering, manufacturing, and more.
The main areas of expertise developed in this curriculum are as follows:
- Data Analytics and Computing – Big data analytics, data-driven optimisation, operations research, statistics analysis, system modelling and simulation, quality control and process optimisation, blockchain, and project management.
- Robotics and Intelligent Systems – Artificial intelligence, machine learning, computer vision, robotics, virtual reality, human-machine interface, internet of things, and manufacturing.
Entry Scholarship
In recognition of outstanding academic achievements by HKDSE students, the department will grant an entry scholarship to eligible students who are admitted to the programme via JUPAS. The scholarship award criteria are shown at https://www.dase.hku.hk/.

- Level 2 in Liberal Studies achieved in previous sitting(s) will be considered in lieu of Citizenship and Social Development.
- Other Language subjects will be used as unspecified elective subjects. Please refer to hku.hk/dse for the minimum requirement.
Level 3 or above in Mathematics (Extended Module 1 or Module 2) is preferred (but not required).
The calculation of programme score considers category A subjects and may include Mathematics Extended Module 1 or 2 and category C subject. Please refer to hku.hk/dse for details.
The result(s) of Liberal Studies, Combined Science and Integrated Science achieved in previous sitting(s) will also be considered.

- "Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education” is referred to as “HKDSE”.
- "Attained with Distinction" obtained prior to 2018, or "Attained with Distinction (I)" or "Attained with Distinction (II)" obtained in or after 2018, in Applied Learning subjects (other than Applied Learning Chinese) will be used as additional supporting information. In the meantime, student learning experiences in Applied Learning subjects may be considered within the context of other learning experiences in their application.

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination
In general, most of the programmes offered by HKU consider the best results achieved by candidates in different combination of sittings, except for a few programmes which only consider the latest results.
