MBBS(DMS)
Short Description
Beyond the comprehensive MBBS curriculum, the MBBS Distinguished MedScholar (DMS) study track is designed for students with exceptional academic potential and a passion for leadership, research, and service. Through a range of exclusive opportunities, including academic workshops, research projects, community engagement initiatives, and an elite mentorship programme, students are nurtured to become future leaders in medicine, medical research, and healthcare innovation.
Students admitted to MBBS (DMS) benefit from a range of distinctive opportunities, including:
- A guaranteed pathway to pursue an additional university degree alongside the MBBS programme while completing their studies within the standard six-year timeframe.
- Access to an elite mentorship programme, with the opportunity to be guided by a mentor of their own choice from the Faculty or University, as well as distinguished healthcare leaders, policymakers, and senior government officials.
- Participation in exclusive DMS projects that foster community engagement, leadership development, and a commitment to social impact.
A highlight of MBBS (DMS) is the opportunity to pursue a Master of Research in Medicine (MRes[Med]) during the Enrichment Year in Year 3 and graduate with both the MBBS and MRes(Med) qualifications. Students who complete the MBBS, MRes(Med), and internship may be eligible for Faculty support to pursue a PhD at a leading international university, with the potential to embark on a career as a clinical academic. Students may also choose from a range of alternative Bachelor's or Master's degree options during the Enrichment Year, allowing them to graduate with an additional qualification that complements their interests and career aspirations.

Remark:
- "Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education” is referred to as “HKDSE”.
- "Attained with Distinction" obtained prior to 2018, or "Attained with Distinction (I)" or "Attained with Distinction (II)" obtained in or after 2018, in Applied Learning subjects (other than Applied Learning Chinese) will be used as additional supporting information. In the meantime, student learning experiences in Applied Learning subjects may be considered within the context of other learning experiences in their application.
- Level 2 in Liberal Studies achieved in previous sitting will be considered in lieu of Citizenship and Social Development.
- Other Language subjects will be used as unspecified elective subjects. Please refer to hku.hk/dse for details.
- The result(s) of Combined Science and Integrated Science achieved in previous sitting(s) will also be considered.
Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination
In general, most of the programmes offered by HKU consider the best results achieved by candidates in different combination of sittings, except for a few programmes which only consider the latest results. Few programmes may also impose a penalty on HKDSE repeaters. Please refer to https://www.hku.hk/dse for details.
