Statistical Decision Sciences offers comprehensive training in quantitative analysis and statistical modeling to students, emphasizing both theory and practice. Upon admission, students can select one of the three specialized Professional Cores in Decision Analytics, Risk Management, and Statistics within the Bachelor of Statistics (BStat) degree for more in-depth education. They initially choose a Professional Core as an indication of their preferences upon entrance, with the flexibility to switch between cores based on their interests during their studies.
The Professional Core in Decision Analytics focuses on leveraging and managing big data in real time, emphasizing statistically guided AI techniques for strategic decision-making and resource allocation. It aims to blend data science and statistical reasoning to enhance artificial intelligence with human intelligence. The Professional Core in Risk Management provides expertise in the theory and methodology of risk management, including quantitative modeling, financial risk analysis, and statistical methods, while promoting good risk management practices. The Professional Core in Statistics emphasizes the study of statistics as a scientific discipline involving analytical and quantitative tools for logical thinking, problem-solving, probability reasoning, and data analysis to support decision-making.
Graduates from the Statistical Decision Sciences programme are eligible to become a Graduate Statistician (GradStat) designated by the Royal Statistical Society (RSS), UK, with accreditation ensuring high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment. Additionally, passing specific courses may qualify graduates for the RSS Data Analyst award.

- "Attained with Distinction" obtained prior to 2018, or "Attained with Distinction (I)" or "Attained with Distinction (II)" obtained in or after 2018, in Applied Learning subjects (other than Applied Learning Chinese) will be used as additional supporting information. In the meantime, student learning experiences in Applied Learning subjects may be considered within the context of other learning experiences in their application.

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination
In general, most of the programmes offered by HKU consider the best results achieved by candidates in different combination of sittings, except for a few programmes which only consider the latest results.
