Short Description

The BSc in Sustainable and Green Finance (SGFN) program is at the forefront of undergraduate education in Hong Kong to equip students with interdisciplinary knowledge and skills in both Business & Finance and Environment & Sustainability areas. The program is jointly offered by the School of Business and Management and the Division of Environment and Sustainability, designed for students who would like to pursue a career in the sustainable and green finance industry.

Investing in sustainability has been a global megatrend in recent years driven by the collective effort among governments and businesses around the world to address climate risks. The global net-zero transition requires business and political leaders to better manage sustainability-related risks and reprioritize the economic activities and investment portfolios toward sustainable development. It creates tremendous opportunities in different areas within economies, including carbon pricing and trading market, sustainability-linked debt market, green financial product development, sustainable supply chain financing, environment, social, and governance (ESG) management and strategy development, etc.

SGFN program nurtures students to be effective leaders in the sustainable and green finance industry. The curriculum overlays business and finance topics with sustainability significance, which covers the latest sustainable and green finance development at national and global levels to provide students with a global perspective in the field with local relevance. Some courses are newly designed to address the growing attention on sustainable finance issues, important topics include ESG investing, governing green finance, sustainable supply chain management, risk management, circular economy, and so on. The learning experience in the SGFN program is across the spectrum of theory and practice. Wide range of co-curricular activities are provided for students to connect with the industry and to support students’ personal development.

Sustainable and green finance professionals are highly desirable globally. SGFN graduates will be able to develop careers in different sectors, including investment/retail banking, asset management, corporate finance, risk management, ESG consulting, capable in conducting sustainable investment analyses, ESG analyses, sustainability consulting, sustainable finance product development and so on.

Remarks:

JS5822 allows students who have a special interest in BSc SGFN to directly enter the major. For students who would like to take time to explore their academic interest, they may also apply to JS5300 Business and Management and join the SGFN program via the major selection exercise after completing the first year of study. Interview is compulsory for admissions. Band A applicants will be invited to program interviews and engagement activities in May-July 2024.

  1. Non-Chinese speaking (NCS) students may use an alternative Chinese subject, an HKDSE Other Language subject, or an HKDSE Applied Learning Chinese subject to satisfy the University’s Chinese language requirement. 
  2. The result(s) of Liberal Studies in previous sitting(s) will also be considered in HKUST General Entrance Requirement. Level 2 or above is required. 
    "Attained" level in Citizenship and Social Development and the result(s) of Liberal Studies will not be considered in the admissions score calculation.
  3. The above subjects refer to Category A subjects.
  4. Grade C or above in Category C (Other Languages) subjects can count as Elective 2 (for some programs).

Calculation of scores for applicants with more than 1 sitting in HKDSE Examination

Once the minimum entrance requirements have been met, the best results achieved in all sittings will be used for calculating admissions scores.
