Alternative Qualifications in Chinese Language (ACL) for Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) Applicants

Introduction

 

For Non-Chinese Speaking (NCS) JUPAS applicants, the 9 JUPAS participating-institutions and the SSSDP institutions (the Institutions) will accept and consider the following Alternative Qualifications in Chinese Language (ACL) for meeting their Chinese Language entrance requirements:

  1. HKDSE Examination Category B: Applied Learning Chinese (ApL(C));

  2. General Certificate of Education (GCE) Examination;

  3. General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) Examination; and

  4. International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) Examination.

Applicants should refer to the information below for the ACL accepted by the Institutions, the minimum grade required and any requirements specified for individual programmes:

Eligibility

 

NCS school and non-school applicants who are pursuing the local curriculum and applying via JUPAS must meet ONE of the following specified circumstances for their ACL to be considered:

  1. They have learnt Chinese Language for less than 6 years while receiving primary and secondary education; OR

  2. They have learnt Chinese Language for 6 years or more in schools, but have been taught an adapted and simpler curriculum not normally applicable to the majority of students in local schools.

Applicants with ApL(C) results are regarded as meeting one of the specified circumstances.

Eligible NCS applicants may submit one or more of the listed ACL, regardless of whether they have obtained or will obtain HKDSE Examination Chinese Language results.

Important Dates and Submission Arrangements

 
  • Applicants must complete all actions required, including entering their ACL information and submitting the supporting documents and required forms (if any), by 21 April 2027 (5:00 pm).

  • Applicants with ApL(C) registered with the HKEAA need not enter or indicate their ApL(C) results as ACL in their JUPAS accounts, provided that they used the same HKID card number for their JUPAS and HKDSE Examination registrations.

  • Applicants taking the GCE / GCSE / IGCSE Summer Series (May / June 2027) will not be able to meet the ACL submission deadline of 21 April 2027 (5:00 pm).

  • After submission, the relevant school, for school applicants, or the JUPAS Office, for non-school applicants, will verify the qualifications and certify the specified circumstances (if any).

  • For non-school applicants, the verification and certification status will be updated under "Application Summary" page in applicants' JUPAS accounts within 7 working days after the submission.

  • ACL that has not been verified, or specified circumstances that have not been certified, will not be considered by the Institutions.

  • Late submission of ACL information, forms or supporting documents is NOT accepted.

Submission and Verification Arrangements for School Applicants

GCE / GCSE / IGCSE Results Only

Applicants must complete all of the following by 21 April 2027 (5:00 pm):

  • Enter the highest subject level / score obtained in the GCE / GCSE / IGCSE Examination via their JUPAS accounts;

  • Indicate the qualification(s) as ACL; and

  • Submit the completed Annex A Note and the original certificate(s) to their school.

Schools will:

  • Verify the qualification(s);

  • Certify that the applicants meet the specified circumstances;

  • Upload copies of result certificate(s); and

  • Submit and confirm ACL via the JUPAS Online Application System.

Both ApL(C) and GCE / GCSE / IGCSE Results

Applicants must complete all of the following by 21 April 2027 (5:00 pm):

  • Enter the highest subject level / score obtained in the GCE / GCSE / IGCSE Examination via their JUPAS accounts;

  • Indicate the qualification(s) as ACL; and

  • Present the original certificate(s) to their school.

Schools will:

  • Verify the qualification(s);

  • Upload copies of result certificate(s); and

  • Submit and confirm ACL via the JUPAS Online Application System.

Submission and Verification Arrangements for Non-School Applicants

  • Enter the highest subject level / score obtained in the GCE / GCSE / IGCSE Examination via their JUPAS accounts;

  • Upload copies of the result certificate(s);

  • Submit the completed Annex A Note 1 to and obtain Annex B Note 2 and Annex C Note 3 from their last schools attended;

  • Indicate the qualification(s) as ACL; and

  • Upload the completed Annex C Note 3 via their JUPAS accounts.

The JUPAS Office will:

  • Verify the qualification(s);

  • Certify that the applicants meet the specified circumstances; and

  • Submit and confirm ACL via the JUPAS Online Application System.

Both ApL(C) and GCE / GCSE / IGCSE Results

Applicants must complete all of the following by 21 April 2027 (5:00 pm):

  • Enter the highest subject level / score obtained in the GCE / GCSE / IGCSE Examination via their JUPAS accounts;

  • Upload copies of the result certificate(s); and

  • Indicate the qualification(s) as ACL.

The JUPAS Office will:

  • Verify the qualification(s); and

  • Submit and confirm ACL via the JUPAS Online Application System.

 Check the Submission and Verification Status

After completing all applicable procedures, applicants should log in to their JUPAS accounts to check that:

  • The relevant records have been successfully submitted and saved;

  • The relevant qualification information is correct;

  • The relevant qualification has been verified; and

  • The specified circumstances have been certified (if any).

School applicants should also monitor the verification status in their JUPAS accounts and follow up with their schools promptly if their qualifications have not been verified.

Non-school applicants should monitor the verification status in their JUPAS accounts.  If the JUPAS Office requests further information on supporting documents, they should follow up promptly. 

Submissions of qualifications by applicants do not mean that verification or certification has been completed.  Only records shown as verified and the specified circumstances certified (if any) in the JUPAS account will be considered by the Institutions.

In the event of any disputes and queries, the JUPAS Office will refer to the records maintained in the JUPAS Online Application System.

Admission decisions are subject to the authenticity of the qualifications submitted.  The Institutions may require applicants to present the original supporting documents for verification.  Applicants should ensure that all qualifications entered and supporting documents submitted are accurate and verifiable.  The submission of false or unverifiable qualifications may result in disqualification of the JUPAS application, withdrawal of an offer, cancellation of registration or enrolment, or termination of studies by the Institutions.
