Eligibility

Individuals who meet all of the following requirements are eligible to apply via JUPAS: 

• Not currently enrolled in full-time bachelor's degree programmes available under JUPAS;

• Examination Results: Have obtained the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Examination results, and / or are registered to sit the HKDSE Examination for the relevant year of JUPAS Admissions Exercise; and

• Identity Document(s): Meet as specified under one of the following categories.

CATI-5	Hong Kong Identity Card + Dependant visa / entry permit (for students who were below 18 years old) Note 1 (Sample) + Fulfilment of residency requirement Note 2 Note 1  Holders who were below 18 years old when first issued with such visa / entry permit by the Immigration Department of the HKSAR. Note 2 Resided in Hong Kong for two years immediately preceding the first day of their respective programmes: (a) The applicants are enrolled as a full-time student in a school offering a formal curriculum in Hong Kong recognised by the Education Bureau (EDB)❖, no later than 15 September of each academic year, for the two-year period ending on 31 May in the year in which applicants' respective programme begins; OR (b) For applicants who do not meet (a) above: a Statement of Travel Records of the applicants which can be obtained at a fee from the Immigration Department of the HKSAR covering the two-year period to demonstrate that the applicant is not absent from Hong Kong for a maximum of 90 days in each year of the two-year period. 2027 JUPAS Admissions Exercise (Transitional Arrangement – One-year Residency Requirement) Under condition (a) above and transitional arrangement, applicants are enrolled, no later than 15 September 2026, as a full-time student in a school offering a formal curriculum in Hong Kong recognised by the EDB❖ for the one-year period ending on 31 May 2027 (i.e. the year in which applicants' respective programme begin). Under condition (b) above and transitional arrangement: (b1) Applicants are not absent from Hong Kong for a maximum of 90 days in the one-year period. (b2) The cut-off date for the residency requirement for the JUPAS applications is 31 May of the corresponding year of the JUPAS Admissions Exercise. (b3) Statement of Travel Records required period: 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2027, a maximum of 90 days of absence from Hong Kong during this period. 2028 JUPAS Admissions Exercise onwards (Two-year Residency Requirement)  Under condition (a) above, applicants are enrolled, no later than 15 September 2026 and 15 September 2027, as a full-time student in a school offering a formal curriculum in Hong Kong recognised by the EDB❖ for the two-year period ending on 31 May in the year in which applicants' respective programme begin.  Under condition (b) above: (b1) Applicants are not absent from Hong Kong for a maximum of 90 days in each year of the two-year period. (b2) The cut-off date for the residency requirement for the JUPAS applications is 31 May of the corresponding year of the JUPAS Admissions Exercise. (b3) Statement of Travel Records required period for 2028 JUPAS Admissions Exercise: 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2028 (b3) (i) A maximum of 90 days of absence from Hong Kong from 1 June 2026 to 31 May 2027; and (b3) (ii) A maximum of 90 days of absence from Hong Kong from 1 June 2027 to 31 May 2028.

Applicants are also responsible for reporting immediately any changes to their identity documents that may affect their eligibility status.  Applicants' identity categories may be updated based on the identity documents submitted during the admissions exercise.

^❖ Lists of Schools offering a formal curriculum in Hong Kong provided by the EDB, as updated from time to time by the EDB: 

(i) Government secondary schools, Government-aided secondary schools, and Private secondary schools (day schools) (Excluding evening schools and "other" schools)  

(ii) Direct Subsidy Scheme (DSS) schools

(iii) International schools / private independent schools / DSS schools offering non-local curriculum

Applicants MUST NOT apply concurrently via BOTH JUPAS and non-JUPAS for admission to ANY programmes available under JUPAS in the same academic year, regardless of

• The academic qualifications used for their applications; or

• Whether the programmes concerned are included in their "My CONFIRMED Programme Choices".

Applicants who wish to proceed with their JUPAS applications must cancel the corresponding non-JUPAS applications before applying via JUPAS.

The JUPAS Office will conduct regular checks with the Institutions for concurrent applications.  If an applicant does not provide the required confirmation, the JUPAS Office will advise the institutions concerned to cancel the corresponding non-JUPAS applications.

• Applicants should ensure that they meet all eligibility requirements and comply with all applicable application requirements before submitting a JUPAS application.

• Applicants are responsible for providing accurate information and supporting documents.  The JUPAS Office may verify the information provided with the institutions concerned and review the applicant's eligibility status accordingly.

• The JUPAS Office may cancel a JUPAS application if the applicant:

  • is currently enrolled in a full-time bachelor's degree programme available under JUPAS;

  • has neither obtained HKDSE Examination results nor registered to sit the HKDSE Examination for the relevant Admissions Exercise;

  • accepts an offer under the Student-Athlete Learning Support and Admission (SALSA) Scheme, administered by the University Grants Committee, following notification by the relevant institutions; or

  • accepts an offer under the School Nominations Direct Admission Scheme (SNDAS), administered by the EDB, following notification by the relevant institutions.

Once a JUPAS application has been cancelled by the JUPAS Office, the applicants will no longer be able to access the information under "Application Overview" in their JUPAS accounts.

Any fees paid are non-refundable and non-transferable to another admissions year / other applications.

Individuals who do not meet the JUPAS eligibility requirements CANNOT apply via JUPAS.
